I’m so excited about today’s project – and not just because Baja Breeze has made a comeback! For those of you who are new to my blog, I have a recurring blog “episode” that features my take on a cool project I pinned on Pinterest. It’s my way of actually DOING something with those pinned items. I saw a card on Pinterest about a week ago that has been running through my head ever since. I made the card again (with a little Brian spin on it). Here it is:
I’m not sure why my pictures are coming out so dark these days, but the bling doesn’t really show up as beautiful as it is in person. Here’s a photo of the original card (I’ve linked to the artist’s blog, but I wasn’t able to locate the card on it). Her photo is wonderful!
Tips, Tricks and Reminders:
- Add color to your bling. In a post some time ago, I showed how I added some color to the Basic Jewels. Before removing the jewels, I added some ink to them with a sponge dauber. It really adds some great character to the already beautiful jewels. This time, though, I added the jewels to the card and THEN used my Stampin’ Write Markers to add a little color to a couple of the jewels.
- Don’t let the layers take over. The jewels are the focus of this card – no doubt about it. I love that the original creator layered them on plain white card stock because it allows the jewels their day in the sun. I didn’t want to directly copy her design, so I added a little card stock. I was careful, though, to not select a card stock that would steal attention from the jewels.
- The lines. I posted this tip before, and I’m happy to share it again. When drawing a line with a ruler and the Stampin’ Write Markers, start the line off the page and continue drawing it off the other edge of the paper. If you start at the edge, the ink will pool up and create a stinky blog on the page. You’re welcome.

Ah there you are, better late than never! So! This is pretty! Looks like rain to me, or a beaded shower curtain I bet you were going for Rain! 🙂
Oh my goodness, Brian, this is stunning!! I am at a loss for words. This little stones are a wonderful alternative for someone who dislikes glitter. Thank you for sharing this card, it’s absolutely beautiful.
I love this card. It’s so simple and so elegant…
Very elegant! Could be applied to many different themes including a wedding card. Lovely 🙂
I love it! I was thinking rain too! I may need to get some more jewels!!
Beautiful, beautiful:) What is the best way to get the rhinestones off with the glue still on the back:) Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work!
Hey Maureen, I open my paper snips just a bit and scoop the opened tip under the rhinestone, shoveling under it just a bit and digging into the waxy paper underneath. That seems to do the trick – the scissors are a little forklift while I transport it to its new home. 🙂
I’ve had lots of luck with the pointy end of the paper piercer. (Just my 2 cents worth LOL)
I went to the dollar store and bought a pair of tweezers that I keep in My Stampin’ Space next to my jewels. Great investment!
Simply gorgeous, Brian! I would have made the mistake of drawing the line only on the card stock, so thank you for that! Secondly, I can’t imagine any other color than Baja Breeze for this project. It used to be Soft Sky for me. 🙂
Have a great day, Brian. It’s raining here in MN. In the “wee” hours overnight, it was raining so hard, it reminded me of rain in Atlanta many years ago and me having to run through it to catch the bus to work! Such hard rain in the SE!
Thank you for sharing the “Brian” spin on the original. Both cards are beautiful. The original for the colors and yours for the monochromatic look.
Love you work and your blog! I subscribe to many blogs, but only look at the cards on most of them. However, I read every word of yours and learn so much. Thank you for sharing your life and your creativity!
OMG this is gorgeous! I’m definitely going to try one. Thanks for the tip on drawing the lines off the page.
This is really stunning. It’s all about the bling baby!
Brian’s beautiful bling is pretty awesome! I am curious enough to try one just to see it in person!
Your website has become my absolute favorite! Love the design of your cards, your awesome tips, and especially your fantastic sense of humor! You always make me smile, and I appreciate you sharing all of your beautiful cards and ideas!
Gorgeous!!!!
This card is one of those special event cards . It is a stunner… I am surprised that you have these shiny shiny baubles in your craft vault …I thought I was on the wrong blog there for a moment but what brought me into grounding was the B. B. ….. You have another possible sale item here . After all it takes a skilled artisan to place all those stones so precisely . Me thinks you need to look into the Etsy adventure….. Seriously , this just beautiful !!!
sparkle-tacular, brian.
Bling bling bling!!! Love ti!
The original card is very pretty and I see why you Pinned it…but your card took my breath away…wow, this is a true winner, Brian….thank you for sharing the best version….this is fabulous and love the touch of your very favorite blue…and as always, thank you for your wonderful tips/tricks. My sister may get a card like this for her December birthday which is only two days before Christmas…a really special card for her special birthday! TFS!
Love this card! Just may have to make one myself!
Love it! You are so smart…I am so cheap, I probably wouldn’t put that much bling on my card. But yours is cool. Thanks for the idea of starting a line off the card. I should have thought of that, but we have you to help us. Thanks again, Brian!
Love this card and adore your “forklift” comparison.
Happy Stamping,
Joni <
