Thank You, Mate & a Sale-a-Bration Sneak Peek

With the excitement of the Product Shares (please check them out here if you missed them) and my video on Friday (it’s here if you missed that one), I forgot about my original plan of dedicating the week after Christmas to Thank You cards.  To make up for the two days I lost, I am giving you THREE cards today.

Each of these cards showcases an image from Feeling Sentimental, a really great stamp set from the 2013 Sale-a-Bration catalog.  The set features a phone booth, a ferris wheel and an old-timey bicycle – all sketched and perfect for a quick and easy card.

CARD ONE:  I stamped the phone booth in Stazon Jet Black ink and colored it in with Real Red and my trusty Blender Pen.  I added a sentiment in Real Red to complete this very clean look.www.stampwithbrian.com - Feeling Sentimental 1

Stamp sets:  Feeling Sentimental, Just Believe  Inks:  Stazon Jet Black, Real Red  Papers:  Basic Black, Whisper White  Accessories:  Blender Pen

CARD TWO:  I stamped and painted the phone booth (same as the first card), but this time I added some other effects.  For starters, I rounded all the corners to soften the card a bit.  I originally set out to create a huge Union Jack in the background, but I decided against that because it was a nightmare to create and would result with a card that’s way too busy.  I opted for a deconstructed flag in the background – I learned that from Top Chef (I took all the “ingredients” and then rearranged them in a different way).  The resulting stripes, in no way, look like a Union Jack (I get it), but they certainly pay homage to Britain, no?www.stampwithbrian.com - Feeling Sentimental 2

Stamp sets:  Feeling Sentimental, Itty Bitty Banners  Inks:  Stazon Jet Black, Real Red  Papers:  Real Red, Midnight Muse, Whisper White  Accessories:  Blender Pen, Bitty Banners Framelits, 3/16″ Corner Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

CARD THREE:  For my third card, I decided to let the stamp set image speak for itself – and luckily the accent wasn’t so Cockney that I couldn’t understand it.  No painting and no fussing.  And look at me!  I even sponged the edges of the paper with Early Espresso – I am SOOO vintage!  🙂  I also brought back Baja Breeze to coordinate with the other card stocks.  This one just might be my favorite of the three.  What do you think?www.stampwithbrian.com - Feeling Sentimental 3

Before you leave, I want to remind you of a couple of dates and upcoming events:

  • Wednesday, January 2 – the deadline to sign up for a spot in one of my AWESOME product shares – to learn more or to sign up, click here.  This is a great way to sample the items in the Spring Catalog before deciding which ones you want to purchase.  I will host additional shares if there’s a demand, but most shares will likely close out on the 2nd.
  • Thursday, January 3 – the 2013 Spring Catalog is live online. The catalog will be posted online at http://www.stampinup.com/ (I’ll also share a link here when it’s live), and orders can be placed at http://www.stampwithbrian.stampinup.net/.
  • Tuesday, January 22 – Sale-a-Bration starts.  For those who aren’t familiar, Sale-a-Bration is Stampin’ Up!’s annual sales event that offers select products for every $50 spent.  Customer and hostesses earn Sale-a-Bration products (on top of the already generous hostess benefits), so it’s a wonderful time to really rack up on some great freebies.  The stamp set featured in this post is one of the items you can earn for free with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration.  Other include ribbon and button packs, a punch, DSP and other stamp sets.
  • Monday, December 16 – my birthday.  It’s never too soon to start planning.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today.  I enjoyed hanging out with you.

  1. That is an awesome stamp and the way you made this lovely cards is amazing. So clean and crisp, I wonder how the other stamps look like. I love those phone booths and I wonder if they’re still around in England, in this day and age of cell phones and Ipads and all of those other electronic gadgets, they might be gone for good.

  2. I like #2….Isn`t this set different ? The Ferris Wheel image is my favorite. I saw it done in multicolors and then embossed on a card the other day…wow!! I like what you did with the phone box..I expect to see Harry Potter emerge any minute. The single image in red is striking …you do good work,Mr. King..
I want to thank you for offering samples of the new catalog products. I just love getting them because things just look better in the real. PLUS you have enough in those samples to make cards. Would you believe I still have leftovers from the shares that I got from the Holiday Mini Catalog. And another thing if you want to order new stuff but want to wait to do SaleABration you have to wait until the 22nd….when you do the shares you`re already have it on hand and can see what really looks good !!! You can tell I`m a big fan!!!

  3. Hello again, Brian: I just placed another order for the ribbon share so I hope it still ok. I don’t know why I didn’t do it after I place my first order but, when I did it, I guess the caffeine hadn’t kick in yet. I think this product shares, (now that I totally understand how they work, sheeesh!!) are a great way to really appreciate what’s offered by SU before the big catalog is in our mail boxes. Like my good friend Sonny said, this shares are a great opportunity to sample some good stuff and start making your wish lists. Now that I understand how they work, I have become a BIG FAN too.

  4. Te he love the bullet points at the end reminding us of your Birthday! 🙂
And, I love that first card. So smart in red black & white! I do want you to know I noticed the sponging right away! Some little devil must have been on your left shoulder telling you to let loose and be a rebel!

    • LOL, Pat, you noticed that bullet, too, huh? ;D
I agree that little devil got hold of Brian to go ahead and be a rebel…love the results, too! My fave is the last card, but they are all awesome!
Have a wonderful New Year, Pat, and you, too, Brian…I saw you peeking in, you devil, you…;D!

  5. You’ve done a really good job on these, and I think the “deconstructed Union Jack” works well.

As a point of interest for Maria, these phone booths (we call them “telephone boxes”) are still around in England, but with the spread of mobile phone use, they are becoming fewer and further between. Many have been changed for a different style (which is definitely NOT iconic, and is unlikely to feature on a stamp set anytime soon!); others have been bought and moved to private property as a quirky garden feature.

Still others are being decommissioned and offered for sale to parish councils etc at the very reasonable price of £1.00, to be used for the benefit of the community.I live in a tiny hamlet, and our parish council has just agreed to our request to buy our telephone box for us. Once we have repaired it, we plan to use it as a tiny community library. As it is a feature on our village green, we will also decorate it at appropriate intervals in the year: Valentine’s Day, Easter, the Queen’s birthday, Hallowe’en, Christmas etc.

    best wishes from England!

    • Hello Sally and thank you for your sweet remarks about those lovely telephone boxes. I’ve never been to England but I was glued to my tv. watching the Olympic Games last summer and I must say, everything, from the first day to the last, was an unforgettable experience. One thing I always wanted to do was to go to London and Liverpool and tour everything tha has to to with the Beatles. Oh, maybe one day I will get lucky and be able to go.
Thank you again for your kindness.
      Maria.

      • Maria, Glad you enjoyed the Olympics. I can recommend Liverpool, it’s amazing to walk down Penny Lane, and see many other places associated with the Fab Four!

  6. Love what you managed to do with this stamp from the new set – can’t wait to see the other images. Nice “Top Chef” tip – you deep us thinking!!!

  7. Great cards with the telephone boxes Brian — I think the third one is my favorite. I tend to make many of my cards vintage. I am not sure how I happened onto your blog, but I am happy I did. I enjoy your humor 🙂 and great card making tips. Thanks for sharing. Oh — let me be the first to wish you a Happy Birthday for 2013.

  8. Wonderful array of designs using that same stamp. I loved the first one, so simple and perfect for a Thank you card and then I saw the baja and expresso combination-WOW! Love it!!!

  9. I like all 3, but the simplicity and serene-ness of #1 makes it my fave.
T minus 350 days and counting……..LOL Sharon S for being so fast on the natal wishes!!

  10. I love the simplicity and the use of white space. Very sophisticated looking.

  11. I love how you used this stamp … just right amount of color to bring the ‘awe’ effect!!

  12. All three are wonderful, each so different – cannot choose just one! I have two friends who are great Dr. Who fans and they will each receive a card…maybe I’ll be casing one of yours…thank you for sharing!

  13. My favorite is card #3 closely (and I mean closely) followed by card#1

  14. I think you like number 3 because it has Baha Breeze in it! But you’re right, it is an amazing card. I don’t know if I like that or number one the best; both beautiful, but I love how the stamp speaks for itself without the color in it. Interesting way to deconstruct the Union Jack for number two! Nice and simple, but it does pay proper respects, I think. Great job on all of them!

  15. I love them all! But I really love the stark simplicity of the first one. We have a few of these phone boxes left in England. As Sally says, some are decommissioned and sold back to the parish council. There’s one used as a mini library near where I live. Such a cool idea. But a warning to anyone planning on stamping one of these for a Dr Who fan; they are not the same as a Police Box at all, sorry!

  16. Love these cards Brian!! I wasn’t sold on this set when I first saw it but now I will have to have it!!
