Happy Sunday! It’s time for another Paper Players Challenge. Today’s challenge is to design a project that incorporates Regal Rose, Pool Party, Lucky Limeade and Early Espresso. Talk about a doozy! Here’s the inspiration card I made with this combination of colors:
Here’s the challenge announcement:
Did I just hear you say, “Brian, it’s too early to start thinking about Mother’s Day!”? OK, so I know Mother’s Day isn’t until the second week of May, but it’s never too early to start planning the perfect Mother’s Day salutation. Am I right?
Here’s a quick breakdown of the elements of my card:
- The Honeycombs. I embossed a piece of Pool Party Core’dinations card stock with the Honeycombs Embossing Folder. I sanded the textured side of the paper with the Stampin’ Sanding Block, revealing the linen-like filament inside. I trimmed this embossed card stock at an angle and matted it with Early Espresso.
- The Muted Flower. OK, so I cheated a little bit. I cropped a flower from Regal Rose card stock, but it was WAY too bold for this card, so I muted it a bit. I heat embossed the flower on Vellum Card Stock with Early Espresso embossing powder. I then cropped it with the Secret Garden framelits. Next I cropped a piece of Regal Rose with the same framelit and layered them on top of each other.

- And did you see that bumblebee? It’s tiny, but the bee plays an important part in this card.  It ties together the honeycombs and the flower. I stamped the bee, from Collage Curios, with Early Espresso on Whisper White and Vellum Card Stock. I snipped the bee from the Whisper White, clipping its wings, and I snipped the wings from the Vellum, leaving a strip between them to make it easy to glue it down.  Â

Stamp Sets: Secret Garden, Collage Curios, Wonderful Mother Papers: Pool Party, Early Espresso, Whisper White, Regal Rose, Lucky Limeade, Vellum Card Stock, Pool Party Core’dinations Inks: Early Espresso, VersaMark Accessories: Early Espresso Embossing Powder, Secret Garden Framelits, Little Leaves Sizzlit, Honeycomb Embossing Folder, Stampin’ Sanding Block, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Brian you are so clever! Another gorgeous card. And it actually is Mothers’ day here in England so it’s perfect!
Really?!! Well, then chalk this one up to intention. I MEANT to post a Mother’s Day card in honor of my British readers. Happy Mother’s Day!
I was just going to say exactly the same! Happy Mother’s Day, Loz. Hope you have been as spoiled as I have!
Hi Sally I’m being spoilt by my husband as my children are coming home for a belated celebration next weekend! My son’s happy as flowers will be soooooo much cheaper next week ha ha!!!
Sounds great! Enjoy your double celebration.
I think you hit the nail on the head this time; your card is perfect!
Brian, what type of adhesive did you use to adhere your card stock and vellum? I always find the task daunting but would love to try this.
I added a touch of the liquid glue to the center of the flower. The glue dries relatively clear, but there’s a lot of embossing in the center, so the glue is hidden there.
Brilliant. Just Brilliant!
Thanks for this Brian – someone has already beaten me to it by saying it is Mothers Day in the UK today! Guess I will get ahead of myself and make it for next year!!!! I do like the flower, especially the way the vellum mutes the pink! Oh – and I love the bumble bee as well!
(I have a tape runner for vellum, which seems to work OK?)
Brian, what a gorgeous card!!!!! The tip for the flower is great, the vellum gives it a very, very soft look. I’ll say it again, my dear, your paper snipping abilities are fenomenal. I love the color combination for a Mother’s Day card, it’s perfect!!
This is beautiful and I love the layout.
Well, just look at this ! I bet this is even prettier in the real ….you know with all the vellum and stuff . I have the Collage Curios Stamps headed my way so I am going to see if I can do my bee wings like that . I really like the strip for gluing tip . and I think you need to do a picture tutorial or video on this whole process and stick it in our club library … And Happy Mother`s Day to all the English Mums !!
Lovely card..the vellum adds such a nice touch, like icing on the cake, and the bee? Like a cherry on top! Beautiful!
I LOVE the bee and I love the sentiment on the diagonal! Just beautiful….
Love the use of velllum!
Oh Brian – the vellum bee’s wings are the Bomb (that’s what the kids here say when something is the absolute best)! I am going to try that with my dragonfly stamp. I really like the way you set the paper diagonally on that card. I never think of these kinds of things! You ARE amazingly creative and so very generous to share all these ideas with us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Happy Mother’s Day to our UK Mom’s. I hope you all get to relax and stamp the day away.
Brilliant Brian. I am so going to CASE this. Colours are perfect for my mom. I am so grateful to still have her and this would be a fabulous wat to honour her. Thank you for sharing your brilliance Brian!
Happy Mother’s Day to all Mum’s in the UK!
Brian, Love the tip of using vellum to mute the pink- and I have learned to use the liquid glue from somebody else’s question- thanks! Love to learn new tricks of the trade- off to try it myself! Happy Sunday!

Love this card, too, Brian! *So* creative, artistic, and pretty! I love the way you tied the elements of your card together using the bee. (So many times when I’ve seen the honeycomb background, I’ve thought about bees.) And your use of vellum in your design really spices up the card!!! Great card!
I’m celebrating Mother’ Day today, this is beautiful, she’ll be one luckynMum to receive this creation.
Such a breath of fresh air. Light and airy colors, this is a real beauty! Just reminds me of Spring renewal. All the flowers pushing up through the ground to see the light of day again for another year. All of your wonderful ideas and detailson this card are amazing! Thank you Brian.
And yes, a shout out to our UK MUMS, enjoy your day!
Absolutely beautiful! So clean and classy! I love the sentiment on the diagonal…very creative!
I do believe that is the cutest little bee I’ve seen stamped!
Beautiful card, Brian! I love the angles and that little bee is the perfect finishing touch.
My first glance at the card was overall very pretty and the flower and that darling bee….still loving that cute bee…and the flower and the way you angled the Pool Party strips! Gorgeous card and any mom would love receiving this card…anyone would love it without the mom’ s day stamp! TFS!
First of all, note to self: put vellum on my next Brian’s Clubhouse order!!!
This is just such a lovely spring card design – Mother’s Day, a Spring Thinking of You card, or even an Easter or Spring birthday card!
Awesome, Brian!
Brian – What a beautiful card! I’ll be CASEing this one!
Cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater!! LOL. Seriously, I love how you topped the regal rose with vellum. Not only is it gorgeous but shows a great technique for working with strong colors. Love the embossing on vellum and the bee is adorable!
What beautiful work, your card is beautiful! TFS!
Brian — great job on yet another card. Great tips using the vellum on the flower and for the bees wings. Love all your inspiration.
