For Mom & Get a Free 2013-2014 Idea Book & Catalog

I know that a lot of my blog readers are wonderful mothers, so I understand how risky it is for me to say this, but I’m gonna’…my mom is – hands down – the most incredible mom in the world.  Mom has endured some really tough battles in her life, yet she has always been supportive of my brothers and me – even when we’ve chosen “different” paths in life, we’ve known that Mom is in our corner.  No matter how bad or good things are, I’ve always known that Mom believes in me and is there for me at every step.  Every time I read the sentiment in the stamp set Wonderful Mother, I think of Mom:  I love you not only for who you are but for helping me become the person I am.  Plain and simple, I am where I am because of Mom.

This card has been brewing in the back of my head for the past couple of months.  When I saw the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, I knew I could finally make this card a reality.  Here’s my clean and simple (and straight to the point) card:Wonderful Mother

And here’s the sketch that inspired the layout of my card (click on this image to see the other cards or to participate in this challenge):

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • CASE Yourself.  This card is a CASE of a couple cards I’ve made over the past couple of months (truthfully, those cards were CASEs of this card that I’d yet to make) because my inspiration for those cards was brewing in this card.  I created a window with flowers in this post and spelled DAD in this post – both similar.  Nothing wrong with pulling your old ideas together into a new card.
  • Shape the flowers.  I wanted the flowers to pop out a bit.  Rather than just make them pop with dimensionals, I placed a small pearl in the center and then “crumpled” the sides up by placing my thumb on the pearl and working my way around it with my index finger.  So happy with how they turned out.
  • Monochromatic?  Outside of the floral window, there are only two colors on this card: green and white.  While there are interesting elements in other parts of the card (the placement of the sentiment and brads, which were decided by the sketch artist), the beautiful window really stands out here.  Don’t you agree?

Stamp sets:  Wonderful Mother  Papers:  Old Olive, Whisper White, Twitterpated Designer Series Paper, Sunshine and Sprinkles Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Old Olive  Accessories:  Boho Blossoms punch, Bird Builder punch, Ovals Collection Framelits, 3/16″ Brights Brads, Typeset Alphabet Bigz, Pearl Basic Jewels

  1. Good morning! What a fabulous card for Mom! Great sketch by Freshly Made!

  2. Gorgeous card, Brian. That “O” looks like a little window, I bet that was your intention. Love the simple sketch but you made it look amazing. I’m absolutely sure your wonderful Mom will love it. She is wonderful indeed Brian, even if we haven’t met her personally, we know her through you because you show us every day a little bit of her with your kindness and sweet, sweet personality. When you showed us your first video blooper, she was there, helping you and making you and us laugh, that was priceless. It’s true. This is a quote I read somewhere….. “Mothers hold their children’s hand for a little while but they hold their hearts forever”.

    • I could not have said it better Maria.

    • Maria, I ditto everything you said to Brian…all so very true – about the card and about your Mom, Brian. Maria is an eloquent speaker and says everything I would have wanted to say…so I just couldn’t say anything else without repeating her. Maria, you are wonderful. God bless all of you.

  3. Love it! Enjoy the weekend.

  4. Brian you’ve outdone yourself! What an awesome card. You and your mother are so lucky to have each other in such a beautiful relationship.

  5. You could have just stamped that sentiment on a piece of notebook paper and had a winner !! I think your card is so special and not because of what you did or how you did it ….just the thought and love made it heartfelt . That window is a really cute idea . A great weekend starter.

  6. Wow, beautiful, Brian, just so beautiful!

  7. This card is ‘beaming’ with love. Lovely. Whatever phase you are in life, regardless of your age, you always need your Mom. I know I do. Thanks for sharing Brian.

  8. Beautiful card Brian! You rocked the sketch using the basic layout but added a little twist to make it your own. Thanks for sharing

  9. So pretty…wonderful color combination! Your Mom is certainly a lucky lady to have a creative and talented son like you!

  10. What a LOVELY card Brian! Have a Fantastic Friday! 🙂

  11. Love this card and feelings you have shared about your Mom. Sadly I lost my Mother two years ago she loved all my home made cards. Last year I felt bad that I did not have her around to receive a Mothers Day card from me so, I sent each of my Sons a “mothers day” card from me telling them I was so happy to be their Mom, enjoyed it so much I plan on doing it again this year.

    • What a wonderful idea! I’m blessed to still have my mother, but I like what you did. I’m going to get busy and make my kids some cards too! Thanks Karol…

  12. Beautiful card, Brian! I love your style! Have a fabulous weekend!

  14. Awe Brian – this card brought a little tear to my eye. Your Mom is lucky to have a child that is so appreciative of her. The card is absolutely beautiful.

  16. I can only agree with all comments already made! You did a fabulous job, colors and adorable flowers….created with love…TFS!

  17. soo pretty Brian !!

  18. I echo all above sentiments. What a beautiful card! I know your mom will love it! PS. When I first started stamping, my mom never commented about my first card I gave her (Mother’s Day card). I wondered for quite a while…. then when I visited her at her house, my card was above her bed. Questions and wondering settled!
    Have a blessed day, Brian!

  19. Brian – question on the new packaging for wood mounted stamps. Are we still going to have to mount them ourselves or will they come already mounted? Also, will there be a price increase with the new containers?

  20. Mom’s are the best! Even when we err, she is there for us! I am the oldest of seven and my Mother is still around with us and still sassy too! She is just awesome. It’s pretty finny how an 82 year old can run circles around me, her almost 60 yr old!!!! I pray to be just like her!

  21. Oops…I meant to add,..I have only 2 children, 7 was out of the question! I got my 2 when I married my husband…he came with 2….I also have 2 Grand-daughters! Yup, for a woman who couldn’t have children,,.I’m an Awmma!

  22. So sweet for Mom – she’ll love it!

  23. This is a very special card; its really quite ingenious. What I love best about it is the cloudy blue “o” with the precious little flowers and their pearl centers-very striking against the green. I can tell how much you love your mom by seeing this card!

  24. Your mom sounds exactly like my my mom!! She was always in our corner too! Always!

  25. Fabulous card, Brian. It is so wonderful to hear your kind loving words about your mother as well. She sounds like a pretty fantastic lady. 🙂 Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches this week.
