Mother’s Day is just around the corner, but I’ve been celebrating the day for a couple of months. Today, I am sharing a card that also showcases a retiring stamp set, Bordering on Romance, and a combination of colors I stumbled upon and have fallen in love with. Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders:
- A Unique Cutout. I was playing around with this cutout from Apothecary Accents Framelits on another card and decided not to use it. I used the “scrap” piece to cut out an oval and just centered the oval on the piece. I decided to not use the oval, either, but quite liked the cobmination of the two. I sized the Very Vanilla card stock such that the tips of the framelit cutout lightly tapped the edges. I thought you’d like that.
- Color Coordination. This card started with two things I wanted to use: this polka dot pattern from Tea for Two and the flowers from Bordering on Romance. Calypso Coral has been successfully paired with cool Pool Party and bright Lucky Limeade. When I wanted to soften it a bit, I reached for Wild Wasabi. Something different, and I am so happy with the combination.
- Watercoloring. On a sheet of Stampin’ Up! watercolor paper, I stamped the flowers with Black Stazon. Using my AquaPainter, I painted the flowers with Calypso Coral and the leaves with Wild Wasabi. Quick tip: start at the center and pull the color out. Don’t color the entire image for a beautiful look. Here’s a closeup:
Stamp sets: Bordering on Romance, Delightful Dozen Papers: Calypso Coral, Wild Wasabi, Very Vanilla, Watercolor Paper Inks: Jet Black Stazon, Calypso Coral, Wild Wasabi Accessories: Apotehcary Accents Framelits, Ovals Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Pretty and the little flowers look so soft snd delicate . This is a pretty stamp set that I don`t know why SU would retire it . It`s great for a person that wants to do a little coloring . I might have to give it a second look ! A pretty card that any mother would love to get !!
I am sad to see bordering on romance retire…… what a great way to use it.
Beautiful card
Good morning Brian – does your Mom get to receive ALL the wonderful Mother’s Day cards you make? LOL Nice job yet again.
Beautiful combination, Brian. I love the oval peeking out…perfectly done! Your Mom is going to love it!
Beautiful! The layering is exquisite.
I love this card, I love the layering and the color combination and you did a wonderful job coloring and snipping out this tiny flowers, they look so delicate and sweet. I’m also puzzled as to why SU retires this wonderful sets, it’s sad that the new comers wont have the chance to enjoy them.
Very nice on the eyes, so soft and creamy. I have this set and have rarely used it. Time to dig it out. Your Mom is one lucky lady! She gets fantastic cards and also has one very special son. Just love it!
I didn’t get this Bordering on Romance set and have often been sorry when I see how beautifully the flowers and leaves can be colored! You did a beautiful job on this card…it is bright and pretty but the little bouquet softens it just enough. If this goes to your own mom,she will be thrilled and I can’t believe that any other mother would not just love it! This beauty could be framed after it reached the right person! TFS!
This is a beautiful card, I love the watercolor paper..
