Smile for the Pals Paper Arts

I don’t need to tell you that I’m in love with the new Designer Series Paper in the new Annual Catalog – mostly because I’ve been saying it ad nauseam.  It’s gorgeous!  When I first saw Margaret Moody’s sketch for the Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge, I was excited to incorporate one of these papers.  I chose I Am Me.  Here’s my card:Petite Pairs, I Am Me, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP161

And here’s Margaret’s great sketch:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Frame it Up.  When I first saw this sketch, I saw a frame.  Very well could have been a square and circle on top of a striped background.  I saw a frame, though.  Perfect way to use my new Squares Collection framelits.  I’ve heard people say, “I don’t need the squares framelits – I can cut a square with my trimmer.”  But can you easily cut a square out of the center of the square?  Can you easily cut a square in the middle of a piece of cardstock?  Maybe you should rethink your need for these framelits?  🙂
  • Color Combinations.  I love the combination of colors in this Designer Series Paper, but I especially like the combination of Pool Party with Real Red (incidentally, I also like Pool Party with Cherry Cobbler).  I chose to feature these two colors from the Designer Series Paper but allowed So Saffron to come out to play as a background accent.
  • Continued on the inside.  Petite Pairs, the stamp set used here, is perfect for a sentiment that’s continued on the inside of the card.  The “smiles” sentiment is perfect for a bunch of happy cameras, don’t you think?  I finished the sentiment pairing inside the card, mimicing the shapes and colors of the sentiment on the outside:Petite Pairs, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Stamp Sets: Petite Pairs  Inks:  Real Red  Papers:   Pool Party, Real Red, Whisper White, I Am Me Designer Series Paper Accessories:  Squares Collection Framelits, Circles Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Like what you see?  Petite Pairs is one of my favorite stamp sets.  Don’t forget that it is one of the stamp sets on sale (25% off)through the end of the month during Stampin’ Up!’s Grab Your Greetings Promotion.  Check out the information here.

Come back Tomorrow.  I hosted a $100 shopping spree promotion at the beginning of the month.  Tomorrow, I’m announcing my Mystery Host party – you can win the chance to earn the hostess benefits for the entire party.  You don’t want to miss this.

Wow Brian! I love the I Am Me DSP & my newly arrived DSP Swatchbooks from you AND what you did with this card! Brilliant use of color and your interpretation is as crisp as can be!! Thank you for creating & sharing! Your take on this sketch definitely makes the list as one of my all-time favs!! 🙂 amazingly awesome!!

  3. I like this particular piece of dsp also . I think the little cameras are just perfect for a lot of cards . That`s why I like getting the dsp samples in your Shares offers from the catalogs . I can see them up close and real . And the Swatchbooks are the cherry on top . I like this card and I like your play by play description of how you made it and the only flaw was you failed to mention your famous”Squint ” technique . But, then maybe you don`t use it all of the time . Just wondering ?

  4. Great card, Brian! I love how you used the DSP. The frame reminded me of a camera when I viewed it!

  5. My first thought was a camera just like Dawn. Smile, you’re on Candid Camera! So fun to look at. Who wouldn’t smile. Love it

  8. Interesting design that could easily be adapted to many occasions. The So Saffron square draws you right into that card. I love the way you carried the sentiment into the inside of the card.

  9. Super card Brian, and I love how you explain how you see things.

  10. Fabulous card, Brian….I decided to order the circles first but the squares will not be far behind. Love your near instant ideas when you see sketches and that you know what DSP you will choose to make your wonderful cards….amazing – wish I could be half as clever and talented as you when I grow up!!!
