This is my the first time this year I have submitted a card to The Paper Players’ challenge. I’ve been a Guest Designer on the team since January – alas, all good things must come to an end. (Unrelated side note: I am happy to report that terrible things must also come to an end.) My time with The Paper Players was wonderful – what a talented and skilled group of designers – and I will be forever grateful for those experiences.
The challenge this week is a Tic Tac Toe challenge by LeAnne Pugliese. The challenge is to design a card using three elements in a tic tac toe fashion. Here’s my card:
And here’s the Tic Tac Toe challenge:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Tic Tac Toe. If you haven’t figured it out already, I chose the bottom row: embossing, friendship and ribbon. I dry embossed the background piece of Crumb Cake paper AND heat embossed the sentiment in Tangerine Tango. Do I get extra credit for that? I also decided to use the ribbon as an accent – more extra credit, please.
- Layering the Sentiment. As soon as I saw “friendship,” I knew I wanted to feature the wonderful sentiment from my World Treasures. I embossed the sentiment and trimmed it very close around the edge of the border. I then layered it on Baked Brown Sugar that I cropped with one of the framelits from Apothecary Accents. I then popped those with dimensionals for additional emphasis.
- Mimic the Shapes. The embossing folder is an accent on this card, but I wanted to mimic the tall, rounded shapes from the embossing folder. The Deco Labels gave me a soft “pssst” from the shelves of my craft room. They begged, “pick me! pick me!,” and I listened. They make a great accent for the sentiment.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the color combo!!!
How lovely. Yes, I vote for extra credit! I’ve been absent lately, glad to be back.
wow brain that is already a WINNER in my eyes , love it !!!
How simply awesome is this card!?! Love it!
I like your bright card . The item that popped out to me when I saw it is that piping of brown stretch ribbon !! I like the way you added it . That`s another reason I like getting the product shares . I have this ribbon . Yay for me … This addition doesn`t make this card too frilly at all ….well done .
Oh, I too vote for the extra credit, the color combination is simply lovely. At first glance I thought the orange color was the new Crisp Cantaloupe, which I love but the Tangerine Tango is really awesome too. Love the embossed back ground, I must get this EF, it looks really elegant. Thank you for another fabulous creation, Brian.
Now, about the One for One card swap…..there is still time, ladies and gentlemen, you wont be disappointed. Thanks again Brian, for this fun and exciting card swaps, can’t wait till I get my cards in my mailbox.
LOVE this, Brian! Yes, I’ll give you two points extra credit, plus another because I JUST LOVE IT! Great colors, love the ribbon peeking out from the side, and your colors are fab—LOVE orange! I also like how you trimmed the label so that you could layer it! Good job!
Lovely colors and texture, Brian! So glad you could join us this week!
Very pretty, Brian! I love the ribbon. Thanks for playing with The Paper Players! Miss you 🙂
Brian, this is such a gorgeous color scheme. The embossing folder is perfect as a backdrop to the sentiment and the ruffle ribbon is perfect as the vertical element. Fabulous card – as always! So glad to see you play along with us this week!
