Happy Birthday with a Holiday Catalog SNEAK PEEK

There are a lot of really multi-purpose items headed your way in the Holiday Catalog (to be released August 1).  It’s my joy to share some of these new items with you.  You can’t buy them yet, but I want to show you how wonderful these items are.  Yesterday, I showed you the new Chevron Border Punch (see it here) – and it wasn’t a Christmas card.  Today, I’m sharing a birthday card I made with a Stylish Stripes, a new Textured Impressions Embossing Folder in the Holiday Catalog.  Here’s my project:Label Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Selections.  I love it when colors just come together.  Primrose Petals is a pretty pink, but it has a subtle darkness to it.  That’s why it pairs perfectly with Basic Gray.  I initially wanted to incorporate an additional color on this card, but I decided the pink, gray and white work well together here – no need for distractions from some butt-in color.
  • Core’dinations.  I’m really loving these Core’dinations papers.  Just like my obsession with / addiction to  Baja Breeze (oh, remember those days?), I’m not going to be able to scale down my use of this paper.  It blends so well with all styles of card making – from clean-and-classy to vintage, Core’dinations cardstock really shows up to the party.  And I LOVE the Stylish Stripes Embossing folder.  Please don’t think you are done with that one, either.
  • Layers.  I love to punch and crop a bunch of shapes and find an arrangement that works well.  I really like the shapes that make up this sentiment – they are (from the outside in):  Deco Labels Collection Framelit, Deco Labels Collection Framelit, Circles Collection Framelit, Artisan Label Punch, Artisan Label Punch (trimmed around the edges).  In summary, that’s Deco, Deco, Circle, Artisan, Artisan.  In additional summary, that’s D, D, C, A, A.  Now, you’ll never forget it.  You’re welcome!Label Love, Circles Collection Framelits,Artisan Label Punch, Deco Label Collection Framelits,Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  1. I just put in an order for core’dinations at a friends Stampin up party 😀 I’ve gone for the Neutrals as I’m a wildlife & countryside kinda gal. I do like the look of the stylish stripes embossing folder…. its funny how things don’t jump off the page & wow you until you see something done with them. So thanks as usual Brian 😉

  2. What did you Air Freight your Pre Order? I think we need an intervention here. Love those labels!

  3. Laurie Burns Gachewicz

    Seriously!! Air freight or overnight express, either way, I <3 D, D, C, A, A!! Love the color combo… it's a triple threat!! 🙂

  4. Love that new Core-dinations paper. You are the layered-label king! And thanx for the pattern breakdown. Our holiday catalogs get here WHEN?

    • I have selected to have the mailed out to my customers through Stampin’ Up! I am guessing they will be delivered sometime during the middle of July. Yippee!

  5. Maria Rodriguez

Oh, love that EF!! and the great look of the Core-dinations paper. Fabulous color combination and the way you arranged those labels…..super great. So, we only have to wait the entire month of July for that Holiday Mini, right?

  6. I agree with everyone else, Brian! RE: the paper, color combo, and labels! Also the wait for the Holiday Mini!!!!!!!!!!!! Great card! You showcase it well, my friend!

  7. I could say it every day and mean it — I love this card! That EF is going on my must have list! If only SU knew how much you increase their sales with your blog!!

    • I wish there were a way to track that. While I would love to increase MY sales, I’m happy to share with you all. It makes me smile to know that I have inspired you.

  8. This cards just screams ‘Brian King’. FABULOUS! I have always liked shades of gray and pinks together. Winner, winner chicken dinner! I do have a question…..I came across a term or definition in the color selections part of this post. Can you explain what “butt-in color” is? Aren’t I mean? I just couldn’t help myself pointing this out. Don’t be too mad at me. LOL

    • Ha! Ha! Lisa, I don’t even remember writing that, and I pulled it together last night. 🙂 “To butt in” is to push your way in with your head or horns but is commonly referred to when someone “butts in” to a conversation or interrupts a presentation. I was meaning to say that Pink and Gray were enought and that they weren’t going to let some other color “butt in” to their beautiful party. Does that make sense? Ha!

  9. Love the coordination paper with that embossing folder. I just put an order in yesterday, wish I had seen this first. Now I want that embossing folder!! Brilliant idea!

  10. I placed my demo preorder yesterday and added this EF and then almost took it off!!! So glad I didn’t! Considered getting Core’dinations card stock but decided to wait. Couldn’t decide which color collection to get. I need to get some of that!

  11. As ever, another inspiring idea, Brian. I’m actually away on holiday at the moment so have all the time in the world to catch up on blogs but I’m finding it sooooo frustrating because I haven’t brought a single craft item with me so can’t actually do anything until I get home!!!
Enjoy your Independence Day celebrations tomorrow – will raise an extra glass to you as I’m celebrating my wedding anniversary (don’t you think I was clever choosing such a significant date for my wedding all those years ago? Hubby hasn’t forgotten one yet!)

  12. I am so glad SU listens! I bought all three coredinations papers in the Spring Mini and wished at the time there were collections…now there are YAY!

  13. Brian, I just have to take a minute to send you a post……I LOVE spending time looking at your blog… last night I was up until 1:00 am thoroughly “enjoying, grinning, giggling, admiring, etc.” at your entries. I had this real feeling that I had just “spent time with a stampin’ friend”!!! It is marvelous how you share so much of yourself through your blog…..you share your creative genius and expertise as well as your humor!!! The only bad thing is, I don’t think my husband was too thrilled that I spent all that quality time “with another man”!!! giggle, giggle!!! Please keep up the great work….YOU ARE A JOY!!!!

  14. Brian, my swap card went in the mail, Priority, today, sorry, thought I had sent it and found it sitting on my desk, this morning. Had to get someone to take it to post office for me as I can’t drive(in wheelchair). So sorry, said it should be there by Frday.
