Woo hoo! Thursday is here, and that means it’s time for a Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge. Here’s my contribution to this week’s challenge:
And here’s the PPA sketch, created by team member Nicole Watt:
I sometimes get “thrown” when I first see a sketch – and sometimes I know exactly what to make. The moment I saw this sketch, I knew I wanted to make a festive Christmas card – the banners, the panel, the stripe down the left side. I could almost hear the silver bells clanging in the distance as I looked at this beauty of a sketch. 🙂
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Unique Colors for a Wintery Paper. As I was selecting colors to coordinate with my Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper (I always reference my DSP swatch books when sitting down to design), it occurred to me the colors assigned to this wintery DSP are very non-wintery. Island Indigo, Coastal Cabana and Pool Party – all very summery and warm. Together, though, they work wonderfully to create an amazing winter chill.
- Layering the Snowflake. The snowflake on the panel of this card is the smallest snowflake in the Festive Flurry set. While cropping the snowflake with the framelits is a given (“duh!”), the layers in the design of the stamp itself lend to a snipping delight. I love the combination of Island Indigo, Coastal Cabana and Whisper White. How crisp is that? I even added a little Candy Dot to the center to really set it all off.
- Little Pops of Shiny Silver. The shiny silverness in this Specialty DSP is stunning. To accentuate the strip of paper, I added a thin border of silver foil around the snowflake and a shiny bow with Silver 1/8″ Ribbon.
Stamp Sets: Festive Flurry, A Banner Christmas Inks: Island Indigo, Coastal Cabana Papers: Whisper White, Coastal Cabana, Island Indigo, Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper, Silver Foil Accessories: Candy Dots (Regals), Festive Flurry Framelits, Silver 1/8″ Ribbon
I hope you’ll check out the other designs at Pals Paper Arts.

So glad you took the time with this little snowflake to add color and dimension! It’s well deserved and so pretty on this card!! What a nice sketch Nicole, this card is a gift all to itself!
Thanks to you, Brian, when the snow hits up here in Maine, I will be thinking joy. : )
Beautiful card!
Very nice card! I love the Banner Christmas set and it looks so good with all of the blues! 🙂
Frosty and Fabulous Brian!! The silver ribbon and foil help the little snowflake really shine!!! I can hear the bells jingling!! 🙂
Pretty and I love this sketch . I think i will give it a try . These colors are really nice together but, I really like that shiny silver to bring the festive holiday look to this creation. I do like that Silver Foil paper ! And who doesn`t like snowflakes ?
When my paper shares arrived at my house, this paper in particular really blew me away. I love it, it’s so beautiful, even more so in person. This card is beautiful, love the festive look of it, specially with the touch of silver from the silver foil paper and the beautiful silver ribbon. Thank you for a little taste of Christmas in September.
So very festive! I’m a sucker for traditional red/green for Christmas but I do like your card. Crisp and cool looking like a sparkling winter wonderland. I have overlooked the Silver Foil paper in my ordering. This might just change my mind. I do have the Silver 1/8 ribbon but yet to use it.
Brian, it’s as thought the sketch was designed around your card. Those three little banner letters are perfect. Love it.
Brian – I really never thought I would see a Christmas card that was made with such non traditional colors that I would absolutely love. Your magic continues! LOL
A refreshing take on the Christmas card! Gotta love those candy dots….perfect for so many projects!
Brian, very nice color combination. Am I the only one that is wondering about the “JOY” letters? Did you die cut them?
The JOY letters come from A Banner Christmas (a new set in the Holiday Catalog). I stamped them and snipped them. No framelit or punch – just my big fingers in the tiny holes of a pair of scissors. 🙂
This card just made me think WOW!! I love it… I now HAVE to have this Winter Frost paper…. love this color combo…. I absolutely love this card!!
pretty as a package. love the colors, my favorite combination these days
Love all the layers and shimmer Brian! Great job.
