Let’s hear three cheers for Friday! “Friday! Friday! Friday!” Oh, wow! I didn’t mean you literally had to stand up and shout the words. I was only suggesting that you feel some happiness because it’s Friday. Seems like I should have just said, “Feel happiness because it’s Friday” if that’s really what I wanted. Sometimes things aren’t as easy as they seem like they should be.
Today, I’m sharing a fun card I made for Freshly Made Sketches. Before I share this week’s card, I want to give a special shout out to Linda Callahan who selected my card in last week’s challenge. I’m honored to be considered a “Perfect Prince” by the Clean Team at Freshly Made Sketches. See my card here.Β And here’s this week’s fun and festive card for the Freshly Made Sketches, FMS105:
And here’s Allisa Chilton’s sketch that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Working with Stripes. A lot of the papers in the Holiday Catalog and the Designer Series Paper Stacks have really small, tight stripes and chevrons. Just a warning (and I’ve learned this the hard way) that these patterns can be really overwhelming in large pieces. They can send your eyeballs on an uncomfortable, dizzying journey. To avoid this, use smaller pieces (or strips) of the patterned papers.
- Corner-to-Corner Stripes. I wanted to create my four-square pattern with stripes running from inside corner to the outside. The striped paper in the Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack don’t run at a 90 degree angle from the edges of this paper – but that doesn’t mean I can’t reposition my squares so that the stripes move the way I want them to, right? How? I positioned my 2″ x 2″ Squares Collection framelit along the paper so that the stripes run like I want them to. Easy!
- Added Border Around the Bracket Label. This is a simple tip – but I stamped the central image on Whisper White, trimmed around the border of the image and then mounted it on a punch from the Label Bracket punch. I like the added matting in provides the sentiment.

wow, I got some funny looks from the Tea room when I did the Friday chant in the office, mug of tea & banana in hand!…. :O I’m feelin’ the Happiness! π
Love the card – very neat and effective. Love the monotone look. And well done for being recognised as the ‘Perfect Prince’ X
Well the kids are up … three cheers for Friday has the house bustling π Love how the squares came together! A perfect card from the Perfect Prince! Happy weekend!
This card is something . I love squares and this is an optical wonder ! It kinda makes me think of Candy Canes ! I really like it ! The border around the sentiment really sets it off . It would be lost on that busy paper without it . And congrats to you Prince King ! Happy Friday
Wooo hooo! Hooray! Yippee!!! Happy Friday! π Awesome diagonal stripey quadrants on this festive card Brian!!! And congrats on your Princely prowess!!
FRIDAY!! Woo hoo! It’s the best day of the week! Love your card! Simple yet elegant, and it does look like a little present! Have a great day! π
Love it!
Oh now this is just a brilliant way to use the sketch. How do you always manage to make your cards looked the sketch was designed around them and not the other way around?!
Ha! Thanks for a great laugh on a Friday morning, Brian! : ) And, for sharing a fun, yet easy peasey card!
“Sometimes things arenβt as easy as they seem like they should be.”
Waxing philosophic today, Brian? That little quote is just what I needed today.
TFS your happy red card, and Happy Friday to all!
Love it. I learn so much from you and your creative use of stripes.
WOW!! Love the optical illusion card!! The way you cut those stripped squares is brilliant Brian, you always find amazing ways to use stripes, thanks for the tip on how to align the pattern.
I love how you take charge of designer paper and make it do what you want it to! This is bright and fun!
I absolutely love this card. Well, first of all I love the color red, secondly I love monochromatic cards and last but not least, you did one fantastic job with those stripes. I most likely would never have figured out how to do the cutting so that it all came out so absolutely perfect. You may have been called the Perfect Prince but to all your followers you are still KING! LOL
Dear Perfect Prince,
You “wowed” not only the squared sketch, but the striped DSP. Red & white is a great combination. You are still our King of stamping. Have a great weekend! Nancy B
great arrangement on the card..nice colour combination..
You definitely are the Perfect Prince of Cards and congratulations on the new title…though I believe that you are still and ever will be our King of cards! I do not know how I dropped your blog…must have happened when I was deleting blogs as I had so many coming in that I was spending a few hours just looking and commenting…I am thrilled to back and figure it will take me a bit to catch back up! I LOVE YOUR red and white card…fabulous – reminds me of my most favorite dress that I got for Christmas one year (toooo many years back to think how long ago!) but it twirled straight out…loved it and still in my memories! TFS – have a fabulous weekend!
whoa, brilliant use of the framelit! This would make an awesome baggie topper. Gonna be casing this for sure, so thank you! π
Love the two colors only. Very striking. I love how you put the stripes together, very good job. The mitered corners could be very tricky. You certainly make it look easy. Have a great weekend. Thanks a bunch. π
Your cards often make my head explode with amazement. And, once again, I’m having to clean brain matter from off the computer screen. This is a FABulous, FABulous card. And now I want a candy cane. π
I LOVE this! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
Striking! The optical illusion is quite something. Very CAS but sophisticated.
Great card, Brian! Love the way you created (yet again!) a Chevron look with striped DSP. This is such a fun and festive card! Thanks for sharing with us at Freshly Made Sketches!
