I’m Dreaming of a White Thanksgiving

I know a secret about you – you think in Stampin’ Up! colors.  Am I right?  Don’t worry – your secret is safe with me.  Anyway, when I say I am going to make a card with the colors of Fall, you’re probably think I’m going to use Very Vanilla for a background paper, right?  It’s a given, right?  Not today.  While I typically reach for Very Vanilla to make a beautiful, rich card, I think these leaves look really great when popped against the Whisper White background.  Here’s my card: Falling Leaves, Tags 4 You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

 Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Centering Four Squares.  After they were cropped and stamped, the four Whisper White panels needed to be centered perfectly (or close to perfectly) on the Early Espresso piece of card stock.  Glue one too far in a corner, and the rest are off-center.  It can be a real doozy to get those lined up.  Here’s a quick trick – once positioned my four pieces just where I wanted them and then used a piece of temporary tape to secure the four panels in the middle.  I then flipped them over, added glue, flipped them again and glued them down.Falling Leaves, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • The Sketch.  The layout of this card was based on a card I made years ago with another Fall-themed stamp set.  It’s a classic layout, don’t you think.  When I was done, I realized it’s pretty much the same sketch as the one from this past week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  You can see it here.  Since I couldn’t find my old card to share with you (I will work on that), I will give all the credit to FMS.  Once I find it, though, I will share the card and take back the credit.  OK, I’ll just credit FMS – they are pretty awesome.
  • More White.  Not only do you get a white background behind the leaves and a nice, large panel behind the sentiment, but I embossed my sentiment on Early Espresso card stock with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I like that the punch has four points that line up with the strips between the four panels.  I also like that the punched image has a brown frame when punched – no need to snip out the image and punch another border.  Yay for white embossing powder.

October’s Best of Stamp Set.  Can you believe October is already here?  Because my blog post goes out so early in the morning, I don’t have a chance to share the new Best of set as soon as it’s announced.  The sets are posted by Stampin’ Up! here so you may be able to get a peek at it before I do.  If you don’t care to check it out now, I’ll post it with my blog post tomorrow.

  1. Brian,
Beautiful card. Thanks for sharing. What is the size of the panels?

    • The panels are approximately 1-7/8″ x 2-3/8″. I don’t measure everything to a science. I cut the white piece I wanted and then shaved a little off each end and then cut the piece into fourths.

  2. Good morning, Brian! Since I am up now (very different for my routine) and can leave an “early” comment, just wanted you to know how much I enjoy this particular card… It reminds me of lovely porcelain tile that should be displayed in my kitchen! hummmm… maybe I should give that a try. 🙂

    Another idea for Pinterest… TFS

  3. Nice card and yes I think in stampin up colors. 🙂

  4. I love this stamp set, thanks for the tip on how to line up the panels perfectly. The white background works great to highlight this gorgeous images, they do indeed look like tiles.

Hee hee Brian, glad to know our secret is safe!! 😉 Thanks for showing us how great these leaves look on Whisper White!!

  6. Yes, I admit that I think in SU! colors all the time! What a nice bright refreshing fall card. Love it! 🙂

  7. My daughter and I not only think in stampin up colors we talk the talk. It is so funny when we are shopping and comment on the wisteria wonder blouse or the calypso coral vase. Glad to know we are not the only stampin crazy people out there. LOL Love the Thanksgiving card and especially like the way the points on the punch line up (being such a type A personality). Keep looking for your former card…we can never get enough of the King inspiration!

  8. Brian, one thing I’ve learned from following your blog is that nothing is a given in Brian’s world. : )
    Great card!

  9. This is a MASTERPIECE !! Every detail is awesome . I realized before I began to write and took one last look at your card that each panel has different color leaves ! Not the traditional mixture of varied colors . I love it and you know how partial I am to squares !!

  10. Double stamping sets are my absolute favorite and you have done one spectacular card with them. I too really love the way the punch leaves just that perfect little background over the stamp. Bravo Brian – you’ve done it again!

  11. TFS this wonderful card and your tips! And also thanks for the dimensions….love those unusual colors too.

  12. I love this beautiful card. I like the symmetry of the squares. It makes for a very classic look.

  13. What a great tip! I wonder why I never thought to do this. Thanks Brian.
