A Little Tic Tac Toe with The Paper Players

Yippee Doodle Dee!  It’s Monday!  I love Mondays because I get to return to work – no more lounging around all day, taking naps and making cards in the Fungeon.  Returning to work takes me away from the monotony of the long, restful weekend.  I also love Mondays because I get to share my card for the week’s challenge from The Paper Players.  This week’s challenge?  A Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  Here’s my card:  Birthday Cake, Banner Greetings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP165

and here’s Ann Schach’s Tic Tac Toe board:I played the 3 horizontal squares along the bottom of the chart – Birthday, Pearls and Banners.  I also added Patterned Paper and Embossing, but I don’t get extra credit for those (if I read the rule book correctly).

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Color Choices.  I love how the Melon Mambo (embossing powder, card stock, DSP and ink) pop against the Whisper White card stock.  Bright colors can be overwhelming, though, so I balanced the pink elements a bit by pairing them with Basic Gray.  Not too worry, though – the Basic Gray still doesn’t detract from the sizzle of the pink and certainly doesn’t make the card a masculine one.
  • Mixing patterns.  Beware of mixing patterns on a large scale.  Mixed patterns on large pieces can really send your eyeballs on a long vacation – stripes, chevrons, plaids.  Because my banners are small and thin, I decided to risk it by mixing the gingham with the polka dots.
  • What a pearl!  I embossed the cake with Melon Mambo Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The chevron cake design is lined with polka dots that are perfect to further adorn with tiny pearls or rhinestones.   Birthday Cake, Banner Greetings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP165
