I am happy to share my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. This sketch is simplicity in its purest form. It’s such a joy for me to sit down and make a card with a sketch that gives me permission to be super-clean. Lots of white space in this card, but I love it that way. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for this week’s sketch by Jennifer Timko:
- Highlighting the tent. I stamped the tent on Sahara Sand card stock and again on the Whisper White base of this card. While the ink was still fresh on the Sahara Sand, I used my blender pen to color the folds of the tent and the back flap of the tent. No need to ink up the blender pen because the freshly stamped ink is just sitting there, waiting to be spread around.
- Cutting the tent. I snipped the tent and glued it on top of the tent I stamped on Whisper White. Because the image is so “sketchy”, there’s no need to cut with extreme precision – the ropes and ties can be snipped right off the cropped image because they’re already there on the background.
- Rounding the Corners. Because this sketch is so simple, there’s not a lot I could add to the card. I enjoyed that level of restraint. I did, though, decide to use my 3/16″ Corner punch to crop the top corners on my base pieces so that the card front would mirror the rounded top of the tent. That little element changes the card completely.

Brian clean and simple very pretty. Thanks you for sharing all of your great Ideas!
Love your card!! Very Clean and simple!!
The gorgeous grunge stamp is popping up in unusual places! I use it to make plaid paper for treat boxes and it’s adorable. (You can see a sample on my blog at http://stampingpeace.wordpress.com) Great card Brian!
Beautiful, CAS card!! I love the way the rounded the top corners of your card look, did you do this to coordinate with the rounded top of this pretty camping tent? it looks great!!!
This is so sweet Brian! Once again you have paired an image and a greeting to perfection.
Wow! What a statement! I myself would be less than happy in a tent but this card is terrific! Love the double stamping so this tent is more “canvas” looking on the crumb cake. Your blender pen tip and snipping are pure genius adding depth to these folded tent sides! I love it!
Sahara Sand, I do read every word. 🙂
I am not a camper Brian, but your card almost makes me want to get a tent and give it a whirl!!! 😉 Great CAS card & it’s all in the details, from the colors (& blending – what an awesome idea!!) to the corner-rounding!!!
I love this adorable card!! It is so original. Thank you for all of the details . I agree with StampinPeace…that Grunge stamp just pops up in the most unexpected places . This stamp could be used on a lot of cards with varios sentiments . Thank you for the idea !! Also I think I am going to get that sentiment set the next time I am hostess in the club.
Oh Brian – I think the best word I can use to describe this card is “refreshing”. It’s so nice to see a card that carries such a fabulous sentiment done in such a clean and simple style. I am a believer that more often then not less is better. Absolutely “touching” card that I would love to receive from my hubby!
love this…
Cute card. More great techniques.
I love this card. Reminds me of a few childhood trips. Great words too. One of my favorite sketches-simple. 🙂
Oh I love simple and white space……..this has both! Terrific!
the rounded corners mimic the tent’s shape, and that makes the whole card feel calm. can a card feel calm? you know what i mean. i like the use of the gorgeous grunge for the grass. follows the sketchy nature–see what i did there?–of the tent! have a great Sunday.
Simple, yet fresh and interesting. My idea of camping is a suite in a Hilton, but I am seeing so many uses for the images in this stamp set. I have to add this to my “What Else?” List! I really like all the steps you took with the tent, and, of course, your explanations are super! Thanks again for a great card. Nancy B
Love those rounded corners since I feel it compliments the tent design! We used to do a lot of camping, and I do miss it! Love this card…great job, Brian!
Wow! I love that! I never would have though to use that Grunge stamp for grass!!! It’s just perfect!
Life really is about the simple things, isn’t it? When I saw your card today it made me think about our family camping trips in years past and how fun they were when we paired our packing list down to just what we needed—-simple! Redirecting my thoughts to stamping I’m now thinking about simple clean cards I can create using some of my stamps. Thanks for sending me down memory lane and inspiring me to simplify today. 🙂
Great card Brian! Love that tent! Perfect colour choices! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
