Happy Hanukkah with The Paper Players

For this week’s color challenge, The Paper Players selected Midnight Muse, Pool Party and Whisper White.  Blue and white – almost a no-brainer.  How could I pass up this opportunity to showcase the gorgeous Star of David emblem featured in the Jewish Celebration stamp set?  While I am not Jewish, I can certainly honor the celebration of this holiday with a beautiful card: Jewish Celebration, Delightful Dozen, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP167

Here’s the banner for this week’s challenge from Jaydee:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Focal point.  It all started with the Star of David emblem on the center of this card.  I can’t stop looking at it – I think it’s absolutely stunning.  I stamped it with Midnight Muse on Whisper White paper and cropped it with a Circles Collection Framelit, followed by another circle (Midnight Muse card stock).  I tried every framelit and die in every color combination before deciding on this Floral Frames Collection Framelit.  In Pool Party, the floral framelit makes for a respectfully appropriate extension of the beautiful emblem.
  • Pearls.  Pearls make everything formal, right?  That might not be rule, but pearls really help to keep this image classy.  They might get a little lost in the picture above, so I’m sharing a closeup picture below.  This design features many points where pearls are appropriate – I count 21.  That’s for you, Ann Schach!Jewish Celebration, Delightful Dozen, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Background color.  Once I decided to accent the focal point with the Floral Framelits, I cropped a larger floral framelit in Midnight Muse.  That stumped me because it didn’t leave room for a sentiment and forced me to then mount the focal point on Whisper White card stock.  The white card stock didn’t allow the emblem to shine like I wanted, so I reduced the size of the focal point and created a layering of frames around it.  There’s no doubt that this emblem is now the centerpiece of this card.

Hanukkah begins on the evening of Wednesday, November 27 this year and ends on December 5.  This stamp set is a perfect way to honor the Jewish traditions of your friends and family.
