A Rudolph Greeting for Freshly Made Sketches

Linda Callahan equal parts talent, beauty, brains and humor.  Maybe the beauty exceeds the other meaningless characteristics, but I don’t want to sound like I’m kissing up.  🙂  I spent many hours with Linda in the Atlanta airport last month, while we waited for the other Pals to arrive for our stamping day event.  What fun I had with her!  The sketch she prepared for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches is also fun – so many ways to adapt this sketch to your own style and occasion.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the sketch Linda challenges us with:Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Stripes.  This page from Season of Style Designer Series Paper is my favorite from this pack.  The diagonal stripes are so festive and fun but so seriously beautiful at the same time.  Wait!  Did I say diagonal?  I meant horizontal.  No, no.  I meant diagonal.  The paper is designed with a diagonal print.  I cut my piece out so that the movement of the stripes would pattern themselves after the band in the sketch.  It’s like moving your living room furniture around – you feel like you have a brand new living room (when really it’s the same stuff you’ve had for years).  I like how the paper takes on a new life with a horizontal stripe.
  • Realizing Rudolph.  I had a lot of fun making this little Rudolph emblem.  I started to assemble it for a little tag, but I quite like it for a card.  The center piece is a stamp from Very Merry Tags.  I inked up the entire image in Crumb Cake, but before I stamped it down, I used an Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker to swipe across the deer.  Were it any other image, I would be careful to keep the ink consistent.  The random swiping, though, created a wood-like texture to Mr. Rudolph.
  • Playing with the Band.  I played around with four different band colors when designing this horizontal band.  While the Crumb Cake band seemed to get lost in the patterns, the other colors I tried (Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive) pulled too much focus from the highlight of this card – Rudolph.  The addition of a single Candy Dot brings the reindeer to life, don’t you think?

  1. I LOVE that Club House picture . Would you believe I actually made a magnet for my fridge with it when I first joined ? I thought Alfalfa and Darla would be making cards with us ! And would have loved doing our card swaps with Buck Wheat ! Oh, and I like your cute Rudolph too ! He would be cute on diagonal , vertical or whatever stripes . I am anxious (well not in a bad way ) to see what everyone did with this sketch ? It is a tad challenging I think …. Gets you thinking ! Oh…I just got an idea …that pretty Brushed Silver CS would be so pretty as a band with this sketch !!
Well, maybe not with Rudy but, an Ornament or something . BTW …when is your FESTIVE card swap ?
