Mr. and Mrs. – A Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge

Today is Thursday, which means we have a new Pals Paper Arts Challenge.  Woo hoo!  This week’s color challenge consists of Elegant Eggplant, Smoky Slate and Very Vanilla.  What to make with these three colors?  I opted for an elegant congratulations for a new couple.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the challenge banner for this week’s challenge:Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Layout Inspiration.  We can find inspiration everywhere.  As I pulled into the parking garage at work, I was inspired by the parking deck signs that label the floors with a circle and layer the circle on a slanted square – I used that inspiration to create this shape on my card.  It gives a modern edge to this classic background.
  • Using Markers to Color Stamps.  Have you ever used markers to color stamps?  It’s an easy way to get the most out of your stamps.  Because the background and image on the slanted piece are soft and a bit distressed, the image didn’t need to be perfectly crisp and clean.  I inked up the entire image with Smoky Slate.  To add Elegant Eggplant to the flower, I swiped the flower with a Blender Pen to remove the Smoky Slate and then swiped my Elegant Eggplant marker over the flower.  I then huffed on the stamp (to moisten it just in case some of it had dried) and then stamped it on the Very Vanilla.  How easy is that?!
  • Layering the Sentiment.  I knew I wanted to recreate the Elegant Eggplant/Very Vanilla layering on my sentiment – it’s shown on the card base, on the slanted pieces, so I wanted to include it with the sentiment.  To incorporate the Smoky Slate, I trimmed the edges of the punched sentiment and then added it to a punch of Smoky Slate.  It’s just a small border, but it adds that touch of color I wanted.
