Super-Simple, Super-Cool Christmas Card

It’s always fun to spend time in my craft space (The Fungeon), cropping layers and layers of cardstock to arrive at the perfect look.  I’ve shared those cards with you, but today’s project is not one of those.  Today’s project took me no more than 10 minutes to design and create.  Simple Saturday?  Should we make that a thing?  🙂  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Embossing.  By now, you might begin to suspect that White Stampin’ Emboss Powder is my favorite embossing powder.  It’s a must-have in your embossing powder library (Wouldn’t it be cool if there were a stamping library where you could just check out supplies?  Oh!  And you wouldn’t have to hold your voice down in the Stamping Library – just sayin’.)  I love the look of the stark white image against a rich color.  This sketched stamp looks wonderful against a Cherry Cobbler background, and it fits perfectly inside this oval framelit.
  • Red and White and Beautiful All Over.  On a Christmas card, it’s natural to want to reach for green to complement the red, right?  I’ve seen several cards recently that are simply red and white, and they inspired me to “keep it simple” here.  Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White on Cherry Cobbler – does it get any more beautiful than that?
  • Paper-Piercing.  It seems that every time I use one of my paper-piercing packs, I ask you to not forget about the paper-piercing as a wonderful addition to a project.  Why?  It’s because paper-piercing always seems to slip my mind, but I’m so happy when I include it.  The Occasions Paper-Piercing Pack coordinates perfectly with the Ovals Collection Framelits, so the work was a simple home run.  The tiny holes fill out the rest of the card nicely, keeping the focus on the gorgeous sentiment in the center of the card.  All that said, I ask that you not forget about paper-piercing as a great way to add something special to a card.  Yipee!

  1. I love the idea of Simple Saturday… you just may have to make that a thing 😉 (BTW, beautiful card)

  2. Good Saturday morning, Brian. I really love the rich contrast of this white embossed sentiment on the Cherry Cobbler CS and the paper piercing is a fantastic addition, it embellish this card without a lot of bling, thus keeping it CAS. I think I will add the Paper Piercing Packs to my wish list. Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. BA-BOOM! A real stunner! And yes, you should make Simple Saturday a thing. BTW–you have inspired me to name my stampin’ space. I call it the Fortress of Stampitude.

  4. Easy peasy, now why didn’t I think of this? Because I’m not Brian King! There is only one. Lovin’ it in every way. Cherry Cobbler is my favorite color in the red family. Such richness. Simple Saturday, you have my vote.

  5. Hi Brian – This is a fabulous card! First of all, I’m a traditionalist so I’m thrilled to see a card done in traditional Christmas colors. I always love to see paper punching on a card and you are right – I own all three paper punch sets yet rarely think of using them. I need to take them out of their storage spot and stick them on the wall right in front of me so I don’t forget them.

I agree with the ladies and I think Simple Saturday sounds Simply Sensational! I’m trying to be patient while waiting for the new Occasions catalog but I’m not succeeding. The sneak peaks that have been around have visions of SU boxes arriving at my house going on in my head. LOL

  6. I join the Crafters of your Round Table by casting a ” yay” vote for Simple Saturday!
And I, too, usually forget about piercing…until the card is assembled and I see the perfect place to add it, LOL. Taking it out when I start is the solution to that, I believe.
    Nice card, BTW.

  7. Simple Saturday sounds like a winner to me as well. Great card.

  8. Simply gorgeous! Love the embossing! I never think of paper piercing, and you are so right it adds the perfect touch!

  9. Pretty and elegant …the piercing adds so much . love it ! And Grace ,in regard to the new catty …if you like to watercolor there are some great flowers in there not to mention the Gorgeous gold on Vellum sheets ! So pretty !! Gotta go pull out my piercing stuff …thanks for the reminder Brian !

  10. Beyond stunning. Love it so much!

  11. Thank you for a clean and simple Saturday card! I have all the piercing packs, 3 mats, 3 piercing tools, and you are right, I forget to use them. Your card — the colors, the piercing, the ovals, the embossing — are just right (again)! Question — how do you arrange your ink pads and card stock — by color families or by color ranges? Nancy B

    • That’s an easy answer, Nancy. My colors are organized in alphabetical order by color group (In Colors, Brights, Subtles…). I reach for specific colors (rather than peruse them), so I don’t have a need to see all the reds and all the blues grouped together.

  12. I am the lucky recipient of Diane’s gorgeous Santa suit card from the card swap! It is even more wonderful in person! Thank you!

  13. Pretty Beautiful…for a quickie! I wish,I had your quick wit!!!!! Love it!

  14. Brian, thanks for your reply. That’s how I have mine but I am now considering the other way from light to dark for a change. Of course, I have 2 sets of ink pads and the color caddies from SU to experiment with this. Have a super Sunday! Nancy B
