Simple Saturday: You Make Me Happy

The Pals Paper Arts team has a gorgeous color combination for us this week.  Never would I have thought to pair Island Indigo, Gold and Whisper White, but I sure love how they look together.  Not only did I use this opportunity to combine some gorgeous colors, but I was excited to use some new products from the Occasions Catalog and this year’s Sale-a-Bration items.  Here’s today’s project:

Perfect Pennants, Banner Blast, Stampin' Up, Brian King, PPA186

And here’s the banner from this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge:PPA186 Jan 2

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  •  Embossed Sentiment.  When Gold is one of the color options, how could I NOT choose to emboss this “You Make Me Happy” sentiment?  While it’s difficult to get a good photograph of the embossed sentiment, it’s both striking and easy to read in person.  Because it doesn’t show up well in the first photo, I’m sharing a different view below.  One more disclaimer – I was a good boy and used my Embossing Buddy, but the design of the stamp actually has speckles inside the words so they were (obviously) picked up in the embossed image.
  • Banners in a Flash.  Perfect Pennants is possibly my favorite stamp set in the Occasions Catalog – remember, these don’t have to be paired with banners to make a beautiful card.   I also love the Banners Framelits Dies.  Does it go without saying that I absolutely love the Perfect Pennants Bundle that combines the two?  Whether you are layering the banners or just need a quick accent for a project, the Banners Framelits are an amazing accent.  The small banners are cropped with the Banner punch (available in Sale-a-Bration).
  • A Checkered Border.  There are a lot of patterns on the front of the card – the polka dots, the gold, the tiny banners.  With its diagonal pattern, I knew I wanted to use the Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper on this card.  I featured it in the background, though, which allowed all components to shine on this card.

Did you notice?  I created a hanging banner on this card, but there’s not a strand of string to be found.  Cool, huh?
