Happy Birthday, Mom!

Step aside, Christmas and Halloween and Thanksgiving.  Take a back seat, July 4th and Valentine’s Day.  Today is the most special day of the year.  Today is my Mom’s birthday!  Woo hoo!  While I am at Stampin’ Up!’s Leadership Converence in Houston, Texas, Mom is staying at my house to keep an eye on that rascally cat, Bandit.  She and her best friend traveled to Atlanta – a little vacation in a large city to celebrate her birthday.  Oh, and she has unlimited access to The Fungeon.  Can you think of a better way to spend your birthday?

Mom, since I know you will be starting your day with my blog, your birthday card and present are in The Fungeon (on the top shelf where the swatch books are stored).  🙂

For the rest of you, here’s the card I made to celebrate Mom’s birthday:

Countless Sayings 2, Settin' Sail, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Nautical Birthday.  A nautical design makes a perfect backdrop for Mom’s birthday card.  When I was really young, my parents owned a couple of restaurants (one was a seafood restaurant on Jekyll Island, GA).  Mom has always lived on the coast.  Oh, and Mom loves a good serving of shrimp.  This page of paper from High Tide Designer Series Paper is perfect for either a masculine or feminine image.  I love it, don’t you?
  • Building Banners.  The banners along the base of the sentiment band pull colors from the Designer Series Paper and offer a tribute to the sea.  I stamped the little banners in Calypso Coral, Summer Starfruit and Pacific Point and snipped each one.  I mounted each flag on a punch (of the coordinating colors) from the Banner punch (available during Sale-a-Bration).  Couldn’t be easier.
  • Slanting the Band for Interest.  I started to place the border horizontally across the card but decided to position it at a slant.  This placement not only adds a little interest to the layout of the card, but it gives a nice “nook” for the banners to hang out.

Stamp Sets:  Countless Sayings 2 Photopolymer, Settin’ Sail Photopolymer  Papers:  Pacific Point, Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Summer Starfruit, High Tide Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Calypso Coral, Summer Starfruit, Pacific Point  Accessories:  Banner Blast punch, Brights Candy Dots (Pacific Point), Stampin’ Dimensionals

Please help me wish Mom a Very Happy Birthday!  Please know that she won’t respond to this blog post (she’s a silent lurker), but I’ll share her thoughts with you when I’m back.  🙂

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Brian

Our nephew lives in Brunswick, and there is not a seafood place from Savannah to Jacksonville he hasn’t ate at. What was the Seafood Restaurant’s name if you don’t mind sharing. It’s such a lovely area. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas and talents. Stuck in a Snow Drift in Indiana. Blessings Brenda
