There’s just something so sweet about the 2013-2015 In Colors. Crisp Cantaloupe, Pistachio Pudding and Strawberry Slush all look like a beautiful sherbet right out of fairytale ice cream shop. The colors for today’s card are so sweet that the sentiment “sweet” from Countless Sayings 2 just seemed like a perfect fit. Here’s this week’s Simple Saturday card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Finding Your Color Inspiration. There are thousands of places to find color inspiration. I often find color inspiration through online card challenges, and my Color Coach is my best friend (I don’t always take her suggestions, but she always gives me confidence in my color choices). Today’s inspiration, though, comes from the front cover of January’s Crate & Barrel catalog. I love when Stampin’ Up!’s colors show up in ads and catalogs – makes me happy. I pulled the white, pink, green and gray combination from this catalog cover. Full disclosure: the card covers a set of brown cups and plates that I chose to not incorporate into this card):
- Creating an Interesting Background. My original design included the centerpiece and a piece of Pistachio Pudding. It was pretty and sweet, but it needed something more. I added this corner-to-corner stripe of Whisper White to add interest in the background.
- Keep it Simple. I played around with the central image for quite some time. The stamped sentiment is great, but I played around with candy dots, adding punched or snipped images and played around with ribbon. It just needed something. Why did I feel that kind of pressure? I don’t know. I walked away and came back later. That’s when I decided to NOT do anything more. The uber-clean and simple panel (in my opinion) is just where it needs to be. Done.

WOW!! the colors of the cups and saucers are just a perfect match for this CAS and beautiful card. I wonder if C&B have a SU Color Coach.
Great job, Brian! I leafed through the Crate ‘n Barrel catalog yesterday trying to decide if I should keep it a little longer or recycle it. Even though I don’t NEED anything from it, I just couldn’t let go of it. Thanks to you and your card inspired by the catalog cover, I’m going to keep it for inspiration! 🙂
Thank you, Brian!
You have a designer’s eye! Hope you’re having a great trip.
Sweet is a good name for this card . Don`t you just love it when you get inspired by something other than the usual card making world. Love these colors and my heart did a dance when you said “Fairy tale ice cream shop ” . That`s exactly how these colors come across …. And Brian, you`re sweet too ! Love your card !
Hi Brian:
I think that bit of basic gray really makes this card pop. And, as you already know, I just love the photopolymer stamps! Their images are always so very crisp and they are a cinch to clean. CAS cards are the best and your eye never gets lost on a ton of “stuff” decorating the card. So, to conclude, I just love this card Brian and there is no question that it is meant for a special person once you see that stamp. Enjoy the rest of your time at Leadership and go back to Atlanta filled with inspiration.
Brian you did great job , wow perfect !!
I see your having lots of fun !!!

Wow! That white stripe and touch of gray, totally perfect!!
Wonderful card! Besides the yummy colors, I really love the angles.
..And the king wanted a special treat for a dear friend, so the ideas came in.
The first one the there was too much Pistachio Pudding, the next had Whisper White added to give a sweeter look, the last had ribbons, No! snipets, No! candy drops, No! The king then said “move away from the table!” knocking ribbons, snipets and candy drops to the Fungeon floor. Scaring Bandit and Ms. Mary, he proclaimed”it is Just Right!”
Love it. The colors are beautiful.
