Happy Thursday! It’s time for another Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge, and this sketch from Margaret Moody is very simple, which is also very exciting. Woo hoo! Here’s my card:
And here’s the sketch that inspired it:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders:
- Color Combination. While I’m really happy with this layout (it gives room for almost design), it’s this color combination that excites me the most. I started with this starry piece of High Tide Designer Series paper in Summer Starfruit. The brightness of Tangerine Tango and Rich Razzleberry pair nicely with Summer Starfruit but also seem to oppose it at the same time. When I sat down to make this card, I was super-excited about this combination.
- Yay, You! Do you recognize the sentiment that graces the front of this card? The sentiment is from Pomp & Circumstance, a graduation-themed set in the Occasions Catalog (see the image below). At first pass, I was not too excited about this set – the images didn’t excite me, and I couldn’t imagine the usefulness of the set. That brain? When would I use that brain?! Then, I looked a little deeper at the sentiments in the set, and I fell in love. I can think of 1000 ways to use “Yay, You!” and “Congratulations” outside a graduation card.

- Decorating the Envelope. I cropped a load of stars from the Circle Card Thinlits Die – I had Tangerine Tango, Rich Razzleberry and Summer Starfruit stars. Even though I decided to not use the Summer Starfruit stars on the face of the card, I thought they would be great as a little embellishment on the envelope. Cute, huh?

Stamp sets: Pomp & Circumstance Papers: Rich Razzleberry, Summer Starfruit, Tangerine Tango, High Tide Designer Series Paper, Whisper White Inks: Rich Razzleberry Accessories: Circle Card Thinlits Die, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Brian, I agree with you about the brain stamp! However, Yay, You! can definitely be used more than enough to make up for the brain 😉 Can’t let one little stamp get in the way! The colors definitely woke me up 🙂 I’ll be pulling out that High Tide DSP soon for sure! Love it!
Hey…how about using the brain for dinner invitations at Halloween ? I love love this sentiment ! And that High Tide dsp was a happy surprise because I really like it, whales and all .
Now, I must say there is a major design lesson here with color . I would not have thought of these colors with that card sketch but, that shows what a difference color can make in the interpretation . Terrific !
Awesome card, great color combination, one I never would have thought of but they look great together. Thanks for sharing!
You’re right – that sentiment is awesome! The color combo turned out fabulous! I love everything about this!
I am super excited about the color combo you used! Up to this moment, I had given up on Summer Starfruit. Thanks for helping me take another look ta the High Tide DP too. Definitely like your card!
Oh Sonny…..that is an awesome idea, to use that brain for dinner invitations at Halloween, I can’t imagine using it for anything else, it’s really kind of yucky! but the other images are really nice. And I too agree about the color combination, it takes a great eye for color to think of this shades together on a card but it really works great on this design. As always, fabulous card Brain…..I mean, Brian, LOL!!!!!
Yay! You! For thinking outside that box (or brain)! I love how this turned out. The stars with the DSP …perfect! Thanks for seeing the possibilities and sharing this week at the Pals Paper Arts!
I just made this one!
I never, ever thought I would like this color combination but on this card I love it. Just goes to show that you should never say never. How you decided on this combo is beyond me but it definitely is impressive for sure. Absolutely love the card!
This card is brilliantly done Brian! You’re the brain when it comes to cards!! 🙂 Love it!!!
You and I are more alike that we think. I did not get this set, specifically because of that brain. Yuck! But now you have convinced me that there’s a lot more to the set than that and it’s very versatile. Your card? Awesome as always. Great color combo and you’ve set things off just right! Thanks for sharing…
Me to Brian , I don’t like that brain , but your card is vary cute
Nice , tfs
Hugs frenchie
Hey you right back ! Great card…..the “brain” gets me too…but I a sure you will come up with a winner to use it for! Loved seeing you in Texas – always enjoy a Brian Bear Hug!
