The word “hooray” has a very special energy about it. Who says, “I am going to sweep the front porch – hooray” or “I have acne – hooray”? No one. The special word is only used when something amazing is happening. “It’s your birthday – hooray” or “I just got a new job – hooray.” Energy. A word like “hooray” deserves a background with an equivalent intensity – that’s where this full-of-energy piece of Designer Series Paper comes in handy. Here’s my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge:
And here’s Jennifer Timko’s Freshly Made Sketches layout that inspired my card.
- Flip it! With any sketch challenge, it’s perfectly acceptable to flip a sketch on its side. While I really like the sketch the way it is, I couldn’t help but see it turned on its side. Hooray!
- Cut it! Instead of creating a rectangular panel beneath the banner (it seems like what the sketch calls for), I decided to crop out the rectangle. I simply cut a piece with a square framelit from the Squares Collection Framelits. I carefully lined up the framelit along the first square to create a rectangle.
- Pop it! You know I like layers of cardstock, right? Well, it’s Saturday, so I had to keep it simple (Simple Saturdays are really working well for me). Anyhow, I certainly enjoy the thickness of layers when I want dimensionals to lift it off the cardfront. Since I was going for simple, I didn’t back the Designer Series Paper, so there are a ton of dimensionals beneath it – and additional dimensionals beneath the banner.

HOORAY!! 😉 Love how you cut the rectangle out on this Brian rather than add a rectangle. Great card.
You really nailed that one it is definitely a “Full of Energy” card. Anyone should be happy to receive that card.
This is the first time I have seen this particular pattern used that I like ! It reminds me of Electric Shock patterns . I like how you used it ! Hooray for you !
The black CS really makes it pop . Now I know what to do with it .
Thank you ! Happy Saturday !
I see this being spotlighted hanging in an art gallery. Striking and bold. I agree with Sonny, I haven’t seen this DSP pattern used much. You rocked it! I enjoy Simple Saturdays just as much as you enjoy making cards for it.
Very striking.
I’m with Sonny as this is the first time I’ve seen this particular pattern used from the Sweet Sorbet DSP! Everything from the layout, colors, and sentiment really works well together! Hooray!! 🙂
Great Card! Love how you created the rectangle, using the square framelit – “multi-purposing” at it’s best. You’re making me think twice, as usual, about “needing” that DSP!
Brian, I’ve been challenged to use this pattern of DSP, but came across a layout from I believe a fellow pal and tried it out. It’s a tricky pattern because it’s so busy. I think you’ve minimized the business by covering up the hollow rectangle with the large banner. “Hooray for you today!”
How CLEVER to use negative space to fill the role of the sketch piece! Hooray! Your humor is so fun …. I wish you were my neighbor. I’d invite you to every party.
Not too crazy about this DSP but your card makes it look much better. Thanks.
I can’t believe my eyes! A striking, beautiful card from Brian with only 3 layers? Is that really possible? LOL How wonderful of you to share your technique of making the rectangle using the square framelits. That magnetic platform is really amazing. A beautiful card share from a beautiful person. Thanks Brian.
Oh, what an amazing card, Brian! The sentiment is perfect for the background paper! So interesting and eye catching…love it!
What a good idea to use this particular DSP (when I scroll down quickly, it makes me feel like my glasses aren’t working
… Oh dear, something happened to the rest of my post!!!!
I had written that your Simple Saturday interpretation of the FMS127 sketch worked perfectly with this DSP! Great Jo, Brian, and another HOORAY, for you.
Oh for Pete’s sake … Great JOB!
Hooray for this card! Stylin’!
What a brilliant idea to use a cut-out piece for the rectangular portion of the sketch! Love the boldness of your card! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.
You are so funny. Love the cut out on this card. I have this paper, it NEVER spoke to me until now, thanks
Clean and fabulous!! Love the flip of the sketch and the bold print. Glad to see you at FMS!
Another great card!!! I love the paper, it seems retro to me, like a shirt I used to own back in the 80’s, its like totally awesome lol. Great job Brian!!
Only you, Brian, could pull off a “Hooray” card on black paper! : )
