A Craftily Core’dinated Card for FMS128

I want to tell you a secret.  Lean in closer.  Just a little bit closer.  Here goes – I love to make greeting cards.  There I said it.  OK, so that’s not really much of a secret, but it’s true.  Another secret?  OK.  I also love Core’dinations card stock.  This week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches gave me the perfect opportunity to showcase the beauty of this roughed-up card stock.  Here’s my card:

Blessed Easter, You're Lovely, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS128

And here’s Rita Wright’s brilliantly simple sketch that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Isolated Sanding.  From the start of my design, I knew I only wanted to “texturize” the lower portion of this card.  To create this look, I simply taped down a piece of scrap paper (do you know how long I looked around for a piece of scrap paper?) and sanded up, down and sideways along the lower piece of Core’dinations card stock.  The edge isn’t extremely defined, but that’s OK – I knew I’d cover it with a delightful strip of ribbon.
  • A Bundle of Flowers.  I did not make a complicated bow for this card.  I tried and I tried.  In the end, this decorative knot seemed to be the best option for this card anyway.  I was off the hook!  Woo hoo!  I placed the bow right across the middle of the flowers to give the illusion of a bundle of flowers, tied with a bow.
  • A Rough Ending.  The base of the tulip image is a bit sketchy.  Good sketchy, not bad sketchy.  The drawing is a little loose and abstract, so it looked a little strange just sitting there.  I needed a placement for the sentiment – what better place?  Good ending for a rough ending .  Woo hoo!

Stamp sets:  Blessed Easter, You’re Lovely  Papers:  Neutrals Core’dinations Card Stock (Soft Suede), Pink Pirouette, Pistachio Pudding, Whisper White  Inks:  Soft Suede, Early Espresso  Accessories:  3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon (Pink Pirouette), Small Oval punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. Love the colours, Brian. Another simple but very clever card! (I loved the image of you rummaging around for a piece of scrap-I’m the same. Our cardstock is so precious, isn’t it?!).

  2. Very pretty tastefully done card, love the color combination.

  3. Pretty! The perfect placement for a square knot & sentiment! I just love pink & brown together!

  4. If I didn’t know better, I would think that those tulips were cut with a die, because they look absolutely perfect!!! Brian, you never cease to amaze with your paper snipping skills!! and your patience. Lovely color combination for a beautiful card.

  5. Nice! Ok – So I’m heading over to pinterest to pin this one 😉

  6. that’s stunning Brian! The light green and pink, coming out of the brown, says Spring is here more than anything I’ve ever seen! Thanks for sharing.

  7. I love this card! It’s simple but elegant, it has tulips (one of my favorite flowers), it’s my favorite color combination, pink and brown and that’s such a sweet sentiment. I love everything about it! Oh, and the partial sanding is perfect for the sketch and adds interest to the card. Yay Brian!

  8. Awesome! Another clever blog post and another clever card!

  9. Lovely and clever!

  10. Beautiful card, thanks for showing the Core’dination DSP. I love the paper but found it hard to come up with a full card, this showcases both the texture and look of the paper. Also thanks for showing the RibbonRoll Control holders, I ordered some and I am very pleased with them. Thanks again and have a great week-end.

  11. Oh, Brian, here’s a secret… you are just the cutest! I love reading your blog every morning and I’m going to be copying this card! Here’s to us card-making fools!

  12. Beautifully done Brian! Also congrats on being selected over at Friday Mashup as one of their Mashup Glamette’s!! 🙂

  13. Love, love, love this card!

  14. Great job with this sketch Brian. It’s so nice to see spring type cards again. I love the holidays bu,t after this miserable winter (it’s not over yet), I want to see flowers and budding trees and pretty ribbon and anything and everything that doesn’t have to do with winter. This card certain fulfilled that wish and gave me a huge smile. Thanks.

  15. Your cutting skills are perfect!! You obviously paid attention in scissor class! Lovely, simple interpretation of the sketch.

  16. Fantastic card! I agree with everyone, the colors say – Spring is coming. From the earthy brown a delicate pink and new green springs forth.

I also appreciate the tip about the bottom of the tulips. I don’t have this set yet, but know I’d experience some frustration and you’ve already shown a way to deal with that. Thanks!

  17. Absolutely beautiful! So soft and delicate. Yet has a nice warmth also.

  18. Another winner! I love the beautiful simplicity of this card. You are quite the artist/designer/all around great guy!

  19. I just subscribed to your blog, I never liked that much about the Core’dinations Card Stock, it is OK but I really liked how you did this card, it would make a great birthday card also. Thanks for the great idea.

  20. Brian….ah…what can I say? I am beginning to sound like a broken record I’m sure, but this card is absolutely stunning! I have been intrigued with the Core-d’nations card stock for some time, and just this week, ordered and received the Brights combo pack. I have seen several cards where they embossed the card stock, then sanded the design. That’s nice, but this is WAY nicer! I would not have thought to only do a portion of the card and this works so well. Love that brown ink on the pink and pistachio too…and your snipping skills are “snappy”. 🙂 I think I see this card in my workshop future! Thanks for all you do for us.. very inspiring!

  21. Pink and Brown have been a favorite color combo of mine for 35 years or more. So beautiful together.

  25. This is so beautiful, Brian. I love how you made the cardstock look like two different pieces by sanding a portion. Very clever! Thanks for sharing with us at Freshly Made Sketches!
