Weeeooo-Weeeooo for FabFri39

This week’s sketch from Fab Friday is super-simple and straightforward.  I love that!  These sketches are perfect for ANY style of card – the sketch leaves room for almost anything to happen.  I only had to pick a theme and go for it.  I decided I wanted to make a fun and youthful card to showcase the You’re My Hero stamp set – a birthday card for a young boy.  Woo Hoo!  Or should I say Weeeooo-Weeeooo?  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Straighten out the Diagonals.  It’s amazing to me how easily a diagonal pattern can be transformed when the diagonal is cut straight.  I already love this piece of I Am Me Designer Series Paper (such a soft and whimsical rainbow of fun), but the paper fits better into this sketch when the lines are cut straight.  I had to cut into the paper, but I won’t waste it.  The leftovers will be used for some other project.
  • Create a Shiny Siren.  You already know I love to get snippy, right, I stamped the little car on Crumb Cake paper and on Whisper White paper.  The piece of Crumb Cake is cropped from the siren all the way down to the wheels with the frame of the car glued on top.  I punched a little siren with my Itty Bitty Shapes punch from Red Glimmer Paper.  Woo hoo! You're My Hero, A Fitting Occassion, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri39
  • Balance the Colors. The color inspiration for this card is found in the I Am Me Designer Series Paper – from the Basic Gray base to the So Saffron front panel to the Real Red border around almost all of the elements on the card, the color choices really came together.  I tried and tried to add another piece of the DSP to the smaller of the two panels, but a darker, solid panel was necessary to ensure that all the colors were well-balanced on the card.  The Basic Gray was just what I wanted.  Don’t be afraid to play around with different papers until you get the look you want.

  1. Brian, you made such a cool card! I just love how you pull the colors together and make a card that pops. Great *balanced* details that draw your eyes around the card. I love the word “balance” to describe your cards because you do an exceptional job at it, you make it look effortless 🙂

  2. Great card… I love the colors and the sparkling light!

  7. How fun! I do not have this set but I do like it. Could be used for a special milestone birthday. I’m thinking 50 or 60 something like that. People always tend to buy cards about over the hill. I think it could used for that also. My weird sense of humor I guess. It’s a great card.

  8. I love how much you love this set. No matter how old you are, there is always that little kid who lingers.

There is SO much to LOVE about this card Brian!!! The triple threat here as far as I am concerned is 1) the combo of stamp sets you used, because you already know I LOVE A Fitting Occasion 😉 AND then I LOVE it when you do ANYTHING with that cute little weeeooo-weeeooo set; 2) the colors, especially So Saffron with Crumb Cake and Real Red (hello I Am Me-inspired ala the DSP); & 3) the fact that you used just a teensie bit of Red Glimmer Paper for the siren!!!
🙂 This is truly a FABULOUSLY FUN FAB FRIDAY card!!!!!

  13. This card made me laugh! I love it!!!!
The itty bitty light is great.
