Phew! I’ve finally made my Freshly Made Sketches challenge card and am sharing it on the last day of the challenge – just under the wire. It’s been a crazy week – the Fungeon has been a dusty disaster area (I had a new furnace and A/C installed last week with all new duct work), and I traveled to Tucson, Arizona this past weekend for an InkBig Academy training (business training for Stampin’ Up! demonstrators). Lots of time for talking about crafting, but not a lot of time for crafting.
Cindy Hall is hosting this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, and I couldn’t love this sketch more than I do – it’s so clean and so simple. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Why Yellow on a Sympathy Card? Daffodil Delight is a bright, cheery color, so why did I choose it for this sympathy card? Yellow is commonly associated with wealth, sunshine, happiness and optimism. Ancient Egyptians associated yellow with gold, which was considered to be imperishable, eternal and indestructible. What better way to uplift a sorrowful loved one than with optimism and comfort that our lives are eternal?
- Simple Snipping. This hostess stamp set is perfect for a quick-and-easy snip. I stamped the flower and bud on the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper and stamped it again on Daffodil Delight. I snipped the Daffodil Delight flowers and glued them down over the other image (after a little fluffing of the flower). A great effect for a simple image.
- Let it be. My card follows this sketch to a “t”. There are times when it’s best to keep things simple and let the design speak for itself. I thought about adding ribbon or a button or pearls, but I loved the card as-is. I stopped myself from adding any extras – no points for creativity in making this sketch work, but this sketch didn’t need anything else. Thanks, Cindy!

Brian, there is no need at all to add anything else to this very beautiful and serene card. Sympathy cards should be subtle and simple and this one is one amazing example of that. The Daffodil Delight is a bright color but paired with Smoky Slate tones it down just right.
Welcome back from Tucson, I bet you had fun even if the trip was all about business. Can’t wait till you post some pictures…..you will post some, right?

What a nice card and and what a nice sketch . Using yellow is different ,but it works with the simplicity of this sketch and the one flower . I love yellow used artfully and you did it to perfection . Loved your picture with that cactus on FB ….!

LOVE this card, especially during the springtime! Maybe it’s because I love yellow. On a sympathy card, to me it says there will be sunshine after the rain (sorrow).
