Modern Thank You

I’m totally in love with all the Designer Series Papers in the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog.  When I first saw the papers in the catalog, there were a couple of packs that simply didn’t appeal to me – Confetti Celebration and Sweet Taffy appeared too bright and too sweet for my taste.  I thought the packs were just filled with a bunch of shapes with no substance – until I saw the packs in person (that’s when I first knew my heart was open to these papers, as well.)  As always, I have my favorite designs inside each pack – I hate to name my favorites, though, for fear that it will hurt the feelings of the other pieces in the stack.  These pages have feelings, too, y’all.

From the moment I passed through Confetti Celebration, I couldn’t way to play around with the piece of paper included on the card below:

A Happy Hooray, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Circles, Circles, Circles.  I love my punches.  When I saw that Stampin’ Up! added a 2″ Circle punch to the lineup of punches, I was ecstatic.  With the current punches and Circles Collection Framelits, there is already a variety of circles – yet, a 2″ Circle punch rounds out the collection nicely.  Even though the sentiment is designed to pair with the 1-3/8″ Circle punch, I punched it with the 1-3/4″ Circle punch and then mounted it on the 2″ Circle punch.
  • Nestled in.  After I mounted the sentiment, I used my 2-1/2″ Circle punch to cave out a chunk of the DSP strip so the sentiment could nestle right in.  I originally tried to layer the sentiment on top of the DSP, but the patterns on the paper are so intense and so detailed I decided to crop out a piece of the paper.A Happy Hooray, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Powdery Goodness.  You already know I love my Stampin’ Emboss Powders, right?  Who doesn’t remember that moment when they first saw heat embossing demonstrated?  It’s the event that “sold us” on stamping, right?  I was excited to see three new powders added in this new catalog – Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral and Crushed Curry.  All very good choices, Stampin’ Up! – thank you.

The term retro fresh comes to mind with this card. No idea how or why but it just popped into my little brain. I love it! Genius idea of punching out the DP with the punch. I remember the first time I saw heat embossing and was totally mesmerized by the technique. A friend had was providing treats at a their stamp club and she asked if I would like to go and at least help her carry in the treats. My husband was out of town for a few days so I thought why not. I can easily be bribed with chocolate too. At that time I owned one stamp and three markers. I had cut up a manila folder and was making Christmas package tags. All these gifted crafters were laughing at me and took me under their wings and let me try it. I was totally hooked!

  17. My Shares arrived yesterday also ! I think I am going to like trying some projects with the new Specialty papers . I didn`t get the Swatches this time and I miss having them already ! I really like the big cut out circle on your card ….it adds an extra detail that gets your attention . Great card!

  18. Modern indeed, and I absolutely love it! The colors in the DSP remind me of the beautiful blankets made by our Native Americans. I have often used the half circle negative on cards also. It’s a great visual. My DSP swatches arrived Friday. They’re the best things to use for reference. Thank You Brian.

  19. divine! I totally agree about the papers–and I still lose a little sleep at night thinking abut the retired sheets hanging out in my paper bin, looking up at me longingly whenever I rifle through them….

  20. Love your border choices. : )
