I’ve really been shifting into the Holidays quickly this year. I challenged myself to wait until September, but all bets were off the moment I got my hands on products from the upcoming Holiday Catalog. The Merry Monday Challenge is hosting a “Skis, Skates or Sleds” challenge this week, so I thought this would be the perfect time to showcase this hipster-modern moose from Visions of Santa, a fun [and a bit odd] photopolymer set in the upcoming catalog. I created a sled for this guy and sent him on his way!
Here’s the banner for Nina’s challenge that inspired my card (click on the picture below to see the other cards in this challenge):
- Color Combination. Red and blue always pair well together. I particularly like bright red with pale blue – whether it’s Soft Sky or Pool Party, I think red really pops against a light blue backdrop. Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper offers a Soft Sky backdrop with Whisper White snowflakes – the PERFECT backdrop for this sledding moose, don’t you think?
- A Moose Sled. This challenge was not going to stump me. I had limited options for sleds (and none for skates or skis) so I decided to make my own. When it occurred to me that I could have this moose flying down a snowy hill, I got right to work on the sled. I cropped the edge of a Basic Black scrap of paper with the Small Oval punch (just to get the curve on the front of the sled) and then snipped into the cropped piece to arrive at my moose sled.
- Filling the Empty Space. When I started cutting into paper for this card, I knew I’d add a fun sentiment at the base of the white card stock. Although I colored in the moose’s pajamas with a light shade in my Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities, it was light enough to work well with Real Red. With the moose already placed (I knew where I wanted him but hadn’t yet glued him down – never glue down before you are done), I decided to place the sentiment in the bottom, left of the snow bank to balance everything out. Squint, balance, send me a nickel. 🙂
Stamp Sets: Visions of Santa, Partridge & Pears Inks: Real Red, Tuxedo Black Memento, Blendabilities (Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake) Papers: Soft Sky, Whisper White, Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper Accessories: Small Oval punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

We’ll have food, make-and-takes, and lots of entertainment. BUT…the real reason for the event is to get together with you (and to load our retired stamp sets and supplies into your car at bargain basement prices). I hope you will join us!
The event will be Tuesday night, August 12 from 7:00 – 9:00 in Roswell, Georgia (just north of Atlanta). If you are in the Atlanta area, please email me at [email protected] if you’d like to join us, and I’ll send over Deb’s address. Between the three of us, we have hundreds of stamp sets that date back to the 1990’s, so there’s a little bit here for everyone. My goal is to sell everything Tuesday night. Won’t you join us?
Oh Brian, you have me LOL!! early on this Sunday morning, I can’t help it, this card will make even the most stubborn Scrooge smile. I love the beautiful DSP you used for the sky, perfect background for this fun guy, who’s coming down the hill really fast, to deliver your message. Thank you for helping me to start my day with a laugh!!!
PS. you didn’t mentioned the fact that you snipped out this Moose, you are really amazing with the scissors, my dear. 🙂
Well, Brain, we share a peculiar sense of humor…I loved this set the second I saw it at convention! Your creation is the best.
WOW! I love it! A hipster moose – now what other Christmas stamp could a Canadian need more? Super clever way to make the sled too!
LOVE, LOVE LOVE the moose, er, hipster moose!
Hipster? No wonder I found this stamp set simply hilarious! Since I need to get more experienced at photopolymer stamping, I opted to buy the Designer Papers for some tags before I go all out and buy the stamp set. Although, … those dancing Santas with hairy chests would be perfect for my twisted girlfriends. Thanks for an early morning laugh!
Hi Brian:
Playing catch up yet again as we were without cable once more. I’m really getting tired of saying that!
I just love that moose with the “long johns” on. Don’t know who thought of it but the flap on the butt makes it perfect. Did you really snip that guy out and if you did you are one heck of a sniper for sure. I am sooooooo impressed with your sled design. Not in a million years would I have thought of that. So, once again Brian, you show us why you ARE King!.
Have a super Sunday and thanks for sharing your very artistic talents with us each day.
Adorable card. But I have to ask… Did you seriously cut that moose out and how did you cut those detailed antlers?!!!
I knew you would entertain us with this stamp set!
Snippy McSnips rides again! GREAT job on the moose! I told myself I was not going to buy this set…..and this card changes my mind completely! Add to cart…lol.
Needed a laugh today and your hipster moose did the trick, love it.
He is hip! Cute card for Sunday morning!
What a FABulous Fun card!
Mind you I wouldn’t want to be at the bottom of the hill when he arrives lol…
LOving your colours and sentiment too.
Chrissyxx

Oh, gosh…when the email popped in, I was wondering what set you were using for the challenge then…BAM…huge GRIN…of course, who can snip like you, Brian? TFS with us:)
You knocked this out of the park! Fabulous use of that stamp set!
I had a sneak peek at that set, and wished the moose was am individual stamp! not so much liking the rest of the set, kind of wondered what SU was thinking? I do like the moose and your card, tho 🙂
Lynne, Because this set is a photopolymer set, it is only a few dollars more than most single stamps. A bargain – even if you only want the moose. 🙂
Very fun card, Brian! Thank you for joining us at Merry Monday!
Cousin -you’re the bomb!!!!!
Loving this fantastic moose, great take on this weeks challenge. Thank you for joining us for Merry Monday this week.
Brian,
I didn’t like this set, but you have CHANGED my mind! What a cool card made by a super cool person! Thanks for sharing your amazing talent.
Thank you for making my day–I couldn’t stop laughing.
Have a fantastic day.
What a fun card with this very different set, Brian! I love the sled! Thanks for sharing with us at Merry Monday!
This guy is cute. Can’t wait to see the holiday catalog.
Cute ! Who doesn`t like a Moose on their Christmas Card ? Especially one in long johns with a trap door !!! Only one thing missing ….one of those cute Nordic buttons from the Christmas catty !
So many awesome things to love about this card! I hadn’t even seen that moose image yet, but now you’ve got my interest and I’m going to check it out! Such a creative way to make that sled…and my mind is full of all the critters that I can stamp on sleds now!
I also love red with pale blue….it’s one of my favorite color combos! Thanks for another smile-inducing card and post!
P/S: Every time you mention the squint technique and sending you a nickel, I imagine you receiving little envies of nickels each week, haha! But seriously, it really does work when evaluating design balance!
I absolutely love this card, Brian. How clever of you to put him on a sled!
Great card this week Brian. Love the moose image and the color choices. Thanks for joining us at Merry Monday!
Love this, Brian! Adorable and hysterical at the same time! Kudos for thinking outside the box!
What a facial expression, he is on a MISSION!!! So cute and fun! Love the PJs and very creative move making that sled. Totally FUN card!

Pingback: Stampin’ Up!’s Ornamental Pine for Merry Monday | STAMP WITH BRIAN
First time on your blog (not too sure why I’ve not visited before) and I see this fabulous fellow. I’m sure you’re fabulous Brian but this time referring to the stinking cute Moose. He’s so got the look of Bullwinkle about him (Rocky and Bullwinkle Show in the early 60’s, but I know, I know your too young to remember. Ye, ye you saw it on the reruns 😉 ). Promised self no more Christmas stuff – well thanks to you there’s that promise out of the window! Love the sled, oh very clever. Truly fantastic card. Be coming back to your site as don’t want to ‘moose’ anything.
I am back and forth on buying this stamp set. It is so ugly but yet so funny. This card has probably sold me. I might have to see one more to push me over the edge.
This is just too funny! Big smiles here! If it didn’t involve so much fussy cutting, I would make this for a stamp a stack.
Thank you Brian for the inspriation on this card. I loved it so much I had to make a few myself. However, I make a few changes on my card.
Love your work.
Thanks, Bea. I’d love to see what you did with it. 🙂
