Before I share today’s card for The Paper Players, I want to thank Yapha Mason, who chose my Stars card from last week’s color challenge as A Cut Above (You can see that card here). As I’ve said before, I have so much fun with these challenges and never expect to be selected, but it’s always nice to be recognized.
I love an excuse to make a clean-and-simple card. If I’m being honest, I also love an excuse to make a clean-and-layered card. An excuse to make a fussy card also sits well with me. I guess I’m trying to say I love an excuse to make a card. When LeAnne Pugliese’s Clean-and-Simple Card for a Child’s Birthday Party challenge was announced yesterday, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I did this:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Repurposing Stamps. Do you recognize all the stamps used in this card? Let’s try. There’s the lion from Zoo Babies. There’s the banners and sentiment from Amazing Birthday. So , what’s that the lion is standing on? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s a cupcake base from Cupcake Party, turned upside down. I needed a base for the lion, and this polka-dotted shape delivered.
- Color Inspiration. When I find a color combination that works for me, I like to share it with you. For this card, I used varying shades of the primary colors – red, blue and yellow. When I think of a child’s card, I think of these most-basic colors. Daffodil Delight would be the closest to primary yellow, but I like the richness that Crushed Curry adds. I also paired them with Very Vanilla for additional interest. Feel free to copy down this color combination for your own use.
- Layered Banners. The three colors are repeated in the banners on the right of the lion. For each, I stamped the banner from Amazing Birthday in the three colors. The Pacific Point banner is stamped directly on the Very Vanilla base. The other two are stamped on Very Vanilla and cropped with Banner Framelits that are smaller than the original image. I stacked the banner to line up at the base of the banner (although the usual instinct would be to center them inside each other).

Brian, this is such a beautiful and super cute card, and what a fantastic idea to repurpose the cup cake liner from the Zoo Babies set, (which is at the top of my September order) to serve as the perfect stand for this adorable little lion.
