Ghoulish Greetings for the Friday Mashup

Before I share this week’s project for The Friday Mashup, I want to say “thank you” to Heidi Baks who selected my last Friday Mashup project as a “runner up” – I’m a Glamette, y’all!  🙂  I love the inspiration I receive from online challenges, so I’m not “in this” to “win this” – but it’s always wonderful to be selected.  🙂  If you want to see the card that Heidi selected, click here.

This week’s sketch for The Friday Mashup is super-fun – not necessarily because of the design but because it was designed by Heidi’s 7-year-old daughter.  How cute!  It’s a good sketch, too, so I decided to play along.  Here’s my card:

Fall Fest, Ghoulish Greetings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FM177

And here’s the sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • So Many Ghostly Options.  Fall Fest contains a ghost, three pumpkins and three cute faces that seem to be made for the pumpkins.  They are perfect for the ghost, too!  I simply stamped the face on Whisper White cardstock and then cropped the ghost out with the ghost framelit from Fun Fall Framelits.  So many options to create an adorably frightening ghost.
  • Labels Collection Framelits.  It’s been a long time since I’ve used my Labels Collection Framelits.  You can create a very formal look by pairing the shapes with an oval from the Ovals Collection Framelits.  When those shapes are Tangerine Tango and Basic Black, the look is haunting – almost looks like a mirror in an old mansion.  Spooky!
  • A Perfect Fit.  I wanted to add a little sentiment to the base of my oval.  Rather than just add a banner that hangs over the edge of the central image, I thought it would be fun to stamp on a 3/4″ strip of cardstock and then crop it with the Ovals Collection Framelit used to crop the Tangerine Tango – the sentiment then fits snuggly at the base of the oval.  Yippee doodle dee!

  5. Hi Brian… what a cute card! I love the different face you added to the ghost, and you always do such a good job with incorporating the sentiment. I’m really glad you liked playing along with my daughter’s challenge. Thanks for joining the Friday Mashup this week.

  6. Like your haunting description of the old mirror in the old mansion/haunted house. Remember going thru haunted houses at Halloween? This little guy looks like he is ready to scare the pants off you. Better yet, laughing at you for being scared. Such a cute cute card.
