Celebrate Your Birthday with the PPA

The sketch for this week’s Pals Paper Arts leaves a lot to the imagination.  With a shape or image floating off the top, left corner of the center layer, almost anything can happen, right?  Well, I saw “floating” and decided I’d be creating a pile of balloons floating off the side of the card.  That got changed around when a different inspiration struck me.  Here’s my celebratory 5″ x 5″ card:

Remembering Your Bithday, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA220 And here’s Margaret Moody’s sketch that inspired my card:PPA220To CASE is to Copy and Share Everything.  When you find a card or project you love and want to share with others, you can CASE the original artist’s work by recreating it with your own twist.  It’s always courteous to refer back to the original artist to give them credit for the inspiration.  While I wouldn’t normally CASE a card for an online challenge, I am not eligible to win a PPA challenge since I am a Design Team Member, so I will CASE-away on this one.  I first saw Jennifer McGuire’s project (you can see it here) when her video popped up after I was sitting back to enjoy one of my own.  🙂  I love the concept and added a couple of twists of my own to make this a Brian card.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Motley Monsters.  I love Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Papers (as if you did not know that).  I especially love how versatile the papers are – in general, one side is themed with a holiday or occasion while the other side is an all-occasion pattern.  While this starburst paper certainly fits in with the other Halloween papers, it works so well with other projects.  So retro, so fun!  Definitely worth a celebration.
  • Color Inspiration.  The colors for this card began with this piece of Bermuda Bay Designer Series Paper.  To find colors that would pair well with Bermuda Bay, I turned to my Color Coach.  One of the suggested combinations was Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry.  I replaced Melon Mambo with Strawberry Slush and ended up with this color combination – if you like it, feel free to copy this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Build-a-Balloon.  To create this Strawberry Slush balloon, I cropped an oval from the Ovals Collection Framelits (I simply cropped it off the corner of a piece of cardstock) and a punch from the Modern Label punch.  I punched the label and then snipped the center piece to make it a little more narrow to create a perfect balloon lip.  Is that what it’s called?  I’ve no idea, but it seems like it would be called a lip.  Thoughts?

Oh, yes, it is officially called a lip.

5 A lip is formed on the neck of the balloon by rolling the edges of the rubber using brushes or rollers. This creates the ring seen around the opening of the balloon.
