Stampin’ Up!’s Merry Woodcuts for The Paper Players

I enjoy productive time in The Fungeon (that’s the mystical name I’ve given my stamping basement – the name, itself, breathes life into the dark, cinder-block room).  I’m happy when I can crank out a handful of cards in one sitting.  I also like when I can just play around with stamp sets, dies and colors – even if I don’t complete the ideas, that’s how I develop “leads” on many of my favorite projects.  When I saw this week’s challenge from The Paper Players, I knew exactly the card I’d be making because I had already been playing with the idea of this card.

‘Tis the season for silver and gold.  Here’s my card for this week’s theme challenge from The Paper Players:

And here’s the banner for Sandy’s challenge – silver or gold in a clean-and-simple card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Merry Woodcuts.  This “Christmas Bliss” sentiment with its beautiful scrolliness (that should be a word!) can be found in two places:  the photopolymer set Christmas Bliss and the My Digital Studio (MDS) download Merry Woodcuts.  I used MDS for this project and paired it with my Cameo Silhouette to create a perfectly silver and perfectly cropped sentiment – the Silver Foil Sheets work perfectly in the Silhouette.  Woo hoo!
  • Silver and White.  I’m a fan of any card that is just white and a color – black and white, red and white, green and white – but silver and white knocks me off my feet – even when it’s the simplest of projects.  If you’d like a look-see at a gold and white project I made for Fab Friday, click here.
  • Dot the “i”.  After I pulled the sentiment off my Silhouette and tossed the scraps in the trash, I realized I had not pulled the dot off the i.  After running around in circles for about six minutes, raising my hands to the sky, fearing I’d have to cut it all over again (it wasn’t really that dramatic…or was it?), I decided to add a silver star using the Itty Bitty Accents punch.  It was the perfect accent to complete this clean and simple card.

  1. you could also use a rhinestone for the “dot” of the I. 🙂 This is really beautiful sweetie

  2. Silver, Sweet and Simple… Beautiful!

  3. Isn’t it funny how something unplanned turns out better than the plan?! Losing your dot and using the star instead was so clever….it really makes the card! Awesome job with the challenge, thanks for joining us this week at The Paper Players!

  4. Just what I needed… another digital download! HAHA I recently got a Silhouette Cameo, and I try to use SU! products when I can– and I SO have plans for this puppy! 🙂

  10. I wondered if you had dusted off your silhouette to create this. It is beautiful and the star dot for the i is perfect.

  11. Beautiful card Brian, for whatever reason, personal preference I guess, I love silver for winter cards. It reminds me of the frostiness of winter. Great job

  12. Fabulous card, Brian and I love the star dotted “i”. The paper is the perfect choice with the scrolliness (let’s make it a word) of the sentiment–they both evoke soft snow flurries. Thanks so much for sharing with us at The Paper Players!

  13. Love the beautiful scrolliness of your sentiment! I really must break down and buy an e-cutter. There are so many wonderful things to do with them. Gorgeous CAS card. Thanks for playing along with my challenge this week, Brian!

  14. This is awesome, Brian! SOMEDAY I will get an e-cutter and I can play with things like this too! Meanwhile, I’ll just have to vicariously enjoy yours! Thanks for sharing it with us at the Paper Players!

  15. I love your perfectly CAS card Brian – the paper is the ideal pairing for your sentiment and the happy accident that was losing your ‘dot’ I think looks even better with a star. Having recently purchased a Cameo myself, I’m now off to buy the ‘Merry Woodcuts’ file! Thanks so much for joining us over at The Paper Players this week.
