CAS Birthday for PP228

You know I love CAS cards (Clean and Simple), and you know I love great sentiments.  That said, this week’s Paper Players Challenge (make a CAS card that uses a sentiment as its focal point) combines the two  – and I couldn’t be happier!  I’ve had this simple idea bounding around in my head for a week, so LeAnne Pugliese’s challenge persuaded me to put stamp to paper.  Here’s my clean-and-simple, sentiment-centric card:

Big Day, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP228 And here’s LeAnne’s challenge banner that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Cheery Pairings.  There’s something so energizing and beautiful about Coastal Cabana.  Shades of this gorgeous blue are found in Best Year Ever Designer Series and Blendabilities, so I just HAD to pair them here.  This card also celebrates two of this year’s amazing Sale-a-Bration items – Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper and Big Day stamp set.
  • Ombre Effect.  Ombre (shading from dark to light) has been popular for quite a while, but it’s still a stunning technique.  I used Coastal Cabana Blendabilities to shade this sentiment.  I colored each letter with the lightest shade, colored them about 2/3 way up with the medium shade and then layered-in the darkest shade on the bottom 1/3.  After all three were colored, I blended them with the lightest shade.Big Day, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP228
  • Embrace the Space.  A card can certainly be clean and simple without a huge span of white space – but I embraced the space and used a lot of white on this card.  The sentiment is bold and solid enough to carry the card all by itself.  The bokeh piece of Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper (one of the amazing Sale-a-Bration selections this year) offers a light and airy backdrop for the sentiment.

Stamp Sets:  Big Day  Papers:  Coastal Cabana, Whisper White, Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Coastal Cabana Blendabilities, Daffodil Delight Blendabilities, Tuxedo Black Memento  Accessories:  Stampin’ Dimensionals

  7. Love the colors of this card, really perfect to cheer me up while we are enduring yet another gloomy, foggy day, oh well, it’s still January so, there is no use complaining.
But I do love your card, I’m not brave enough to leave a lot of white space on a card but I can see how you balanced it by placing this sentiment on the corner, colored so pretty, to help your eyes take the whole panel.
    Thanks for sharing.
