Shades of Love for Fab Friday 57

Woo hoo!  After a long winter’s nap, Fab Friday is back!  And we’ve got a super-fun, February appropriate color challenge that’s sure to get your heart pumping.  Calypso Coral, Real Red and Crisp Cantaloupe.  Does it get any more Valentine’s-y than that?  While I would have loved to step away from the obvious choice for this color combination, I couldn’t help but make a super-sweet, super-fun, love-filled card for you today.  Here’s my card:

Oh My Goodies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri57

And here’s the challenge banner that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • The Star of this Show.  I realize I often relate elements of my cards back to theater productions.  Who’s the star?  Who’s the supporting cast?  Without a doubt, I’d say the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper plays the lead in this production.  Without it, this great sentiment (do you know where it came from?) and adorable heart (I do love the epoxy stickers) would be plain and boring.  OK, I’m starting to rethink the star of this production – it’s the paper, right?
  • Pairing Pretty Patterns Perfectly.  Speaking of the paper – the bold stripes (Mercy me!  These are the exact three colors of this week’s Fab Friday Challenge!) pair so beautifully with this light, thatched print.  Why?  Because bold pairs well with detailed.  Bold and bold?  No.  Detailed and detailed?  No.  One of each is a beautiful pairing.
  • Love Big.  I asked earlier if you recognize this sentiment?  Did you notice it right away?  Did you flip through the catalog endlessly, looking for the answer?  Did you just sit back because you knew I’d tell you?  Well, I’m going to tell you.  It’s from Oh, My Goodies – and it’s one of my favorites.  With a little masking, I made this stamp (the one in the top, right corner) give me just what I wanted.

Stamp Sets:  Oh My Goodies  Papers:  Real Red, Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack  Inks:  Real Red  Accessories:  1-3/4″ Circle punch, 2″ Circle punch, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, Itty Bitty Epoxy Stickers, Hexagon punch (for banner tips), Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday Challenge to see the projects by the other Design Team Members or to join in this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  7. To be honest, I don’t like this color combination. BUT, once again, Brian, you have done a masterful job of combining the colors to make a stunning card. I will probably CASE it with some substitutions because I like the design so much.

  10. Brian – you are the only person I know who could successfully pull off this color combination and not only pull it off, turn it into a remarkable card. WOW!

  11. Amazing use of your sentiment stamps! Love this crisp and bold design, Brian! Yes, the DSP is the star of the show, but you showcased it beautifully with the other elements.

  12. Bravo! Another terrific card. I love how you always get extra mileage out of your stamps by thinking outside of the box and highlighting only a certain portion of the sentiment. I agree with you about the epoxy stickers also…they are great! Have a wonderful weekend.

  13. In love with that little banner strip. Brilliant!
