I Think You’re Pretty

From the moment I first saw Big On You, a photopolymer stamp set in the Occasions Catalog, I knew I loved these sayings with big fonts.  I could easily create a project around “I Do Love You,” “It’s Your Day,” and “So Very Kind of You,” but when would I ever be able to use “I Think You’re Pretty Swell”?  Well, today’s the day!  Here’s a quick card I made with this awesome set:

Big on You, Something to Say, Sheer Perfection Designer Vellum, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sweet and Flirty.  How often do you receive a card that says “I think you’re pretty”?  What a super-sweet, super-flirty thing to say!  The combination of colors is sweet (Basic Gray, Whisper White and Blushing Bride) is sweet, and I added three flowers from Something to Say (heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Blushing Bride cardstock and punched with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack).  I colored the pearls with the darkest shade of Smoky Slate Blendabilities marker – I can’t sell them anymore, but I sure can use the ones I have, right?
  • Masking Technique.  I love to create the exact sentiment or image I want – that sometimes means that some of the image must be masked out.  I’ve shared the masking technique several times before – covering part of the image when inking so that only part of the image transfers to the paper (see my video here).  Because this sentiment is so large and see-through (it’s photopolymer), I simply inked up the stamp on the words I wanted inked – no masking necessary.Big on You, Something to Say, Sheer Perfection Designer Vellum, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Luscious Vellum.  Stampin’ Up! introduced four new Sale-a-Bration items in March (see all four of them here).  I’ve been playing around with the Sheer Perfection Designer Vellum Stack a lot lately.  On this card, the scalloped piece of vellum adds a unique backdrop to this fun card.  The stack comes with 24 sheets (2 each of 12 Basic Gray designs).  These are a must have.  You’re welcome!

  1. Sweet card today. The colors work very nicely together. Using the vellum is a nice compliment.

  2. Very special card! I believe it’s a keeper.

  3. Those flowers just MAKE this card. You are so …… clever.

  4. Very pretty card today, Brian! You didn’t say that you snipped the bottom of the vellum, but I see it! Would you go into withdrawal if you couldn’t snip? 🙂 By the way, if you haven’t seen an old musical starring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland, you would hear a lot of “Gee, I think you’re swell!” in one of them. I think this stamp is a nice retro touch.

  5. This is definitely pretty as well! Love the trimmed vellum background!

  6. Brilliant!!!

  7. I just love this color combo! It is so soft and pretty, which goes along nicely with the saying. The way you cut the pattern out in the vellum really makes the pattern pop. Gorgeous card!

  8. Hi Brian:

Any woman would be walking around on the tips of her toes for a week if she received this card. What a fantastic card to send to a friend who is in a slump! Because this has been such a difficult winter weather wise, I can think of half a dozen women I would make this for. All in all a beautiful card with a great color combo that would be an instant anti-depressant! Yeah!

  9. So soft and pretty! Definitely a day brightener Brian.

  10. Absolute perfection, this card is stunning. I love neutral card bases and gray always works so beautifully, and when you pair it with a pastel, happy happy joy joy. I say if you have Blendies and they work, why not use them. I think the pearls and the vellum are the cherry on top. Awesome job Brian.

  11. Love the pink and gray colors! Another beautiful card!
