Peep! Peep! A Peeps Box Tutorial

Have you ever heard the phrase “If you eat a frog first thing in the morning, nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day”?  It’s a wise, positive outlook, but I think it’s wrong.  Even if you eat a frog, things could be worse if you are forced to eat Easter Peeps.  Yuck.  Or handle Easter Grass.  No, thanks!  Still, I have to admit that Peeps are adorable.  That’s why I made a fun, little box to store mine in.  Peep!  Peep!  How cute is this?

For Peeps' Sake, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI’ve wanted to use my Box Punch Board to make an open-top box for quite some time, and I was inspired to give it a try when I decided that my Peeps needed a little home.  I decorated it so they fit right in.  Peep!  Peep!

Here’s a quick tutorial for how you can make a little home for your Peeps:

  • With a little base of Easter Grass, the perfect box for two Peeps is 2.5″ x 2.5″ x 1.75″.  Follow the instructions on the Gift Box Punch Board to create a box this size (the card base is 7″ x 7″, the Start Line is M and the Diagonal Line is S) – but don’t punch slits in the corners using the reverse punch (you won’t need them).
  • Glue down the flaps that would make the top of the box.  I planned to cut them off, but I achieved a nice, rounded edge when I just glued them down.  If you are trying this with a different box size, you might need to snip the tips of the edges before gluing them down.  Here’s how that looks on a Daffodil Delight box I made:Creating an Open-Top Box with the Box Punch Board, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Cut a strip of Designer Series Paper at 1-1/2″.  Starting from the back, wrap the paper around the box and crimp it/score it at each corner.  Glue it down, cutting the paper in the back for a slight overlap.
  • The cute banner on the front is stamped with a sentiment from For Peeps’ Sake and consists of three punches from the Modern Label punch – glued together in a fanned look.  I adorned the flagged label with a punched flower from Itty Bitty Accents punch and a Candy Dot.For Peeps' Sake, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

So, what do you think?  Don’t you think your friends and family would enjoy receiving a pair of Peeps in a beautiful box this Spring?  Even if they won’t touch the things, I assure you they’d love to receive these.

  1. I love Peeps marshmallows, I could eat them by the pound, I wish they made them all year round. This little box is so cute and the little Peeps look even cuter nestled in it, what a fabulous decoration for your Easter table.
Thank you for sharing the directions.

  2. Super cute and fun!

  3. I’m with you on the peeps! They are nasty! And that is because I hate marshmallows.

But your little home for them is adorable!

  4. I’m with you Brian, I’d much rather use them as a decoration than to eat them. They are adorable in the little box though and they come in so many fun colors, they would make sweet little gifts or place cards at the Easter dinner table. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Awe…how cute is this home for your peeps. Love it! Can’t wait to make these for my grands.

  6. Thanks for sharing – my SIL is “addicted” to Peeps and I love your little home for them! Just remember, Peeps are like the eggs, if you hide them for the Easter Egg hunt in your house, remember where you left them.

  7. My dear Mom always gave us Peeps at Easter, so I give them to my boys even though they don’t eat them! Cute project! 🙂

  8. Glad to know I am not the only person who doesn’t like to eat peeps! I love marshmallows but don’t like the sugary coating on peeps. I like to decorate with them and made a peep bunny wreath last year using blue and yellow bunnies. I may just have to make a little peep box too! thanks Brian!

  9. Box is just too adorable. Good place to keep the Peeps. Eating Peeps is like pouring sugar down your throat. YUK! Glad I am not the only one who doesn’t like them.

  10. O.K. Brian – this is what you do with your peeps. You put them on a paper plate and put them in the microwave set anywhere between 45 seconds to one minute. Then turn it on and watch. It’s hysterically funny. I like to eat them when I take them out because it’s like having a nice warm, soft marshmallow. However, if you don’t eat them right away they turn to rocks I swear. LOL

I really like the little basket you made for your peeps. But, even more, I really love the saying. So funny. You made my day today with your little basket of peeps. We have sunshien – hooray!

  11. Brian, I just love your flagged label! The box is such a super cute idea!! Thanks for sharing! =)

  12. I agree with Dianne, pure sugar! Yuck…However; the dark chocolate ones that have come out in recent years are soooooo yummy! They would go lovely in your cute little box.

  13. I don’t care for Peeps either, but I do love marshmallow. I worked for a woman who bought Peeps, but then she poked a small hole in the cellophane wrapper so they would dry out and get hard. Double yuk! I just met another woman who does the same thing. Can’t understand that.

Your little basket is really cute but I won’t be making one–no grandchildren. But I do like the layered sentiment, and I’m going to copy it!

  14. Wonderful easterbox ! Love it and the peeps 🙂

  15. Super cute Brian! I agree, Peeps are a cute decoration but not a fan of eating them.

  16. This is so cute! I’m seriously looking for a substitute for the “grass”. The way you feel about glitter is how I feel about that “grass”. I’m definitely going to make severs of these. Great project Brian

  17. I don’t eat those nasty Peeps either. But they are perfect fillers for the cute box!

  18. I just love your idea for the peeps. They are made by Just Born which is my home town.
I had to laugh at the lady who said someone poke holes in them to get hard. I used to that but now I put them in the freezer. I love them frozen.

  19. Cute box, but I got a sugar headache just from looking at the picture of the Peeps! Maybe I can put my Lindt truffles in there instead. 😀

  20. Oh my gosh, Totally A-dorable, Brian! Way cute and the presentation is Awesome! I, too, can’t stand the taste nor texture of those things in my mouth! Yuck! So when I got married my husband told me that Peeps were his favorite Easter candy! Ewww~ For goodness sakes….there’s so many fun candies, why these things, I wondered! Oh, and he used to love candy corn, and I can’t stand those things either! Thankfully over the years he’s changed his favorite candies.

  21. What a cute box for little peeps!:-)

  22. We should collaborate next time. I just made homemade peeps for the girlies. Really cute idea. Love.

  23. I would like to make this box, it is sooooo cute, and I would like to add Happy Easter somewhere on it. Any suggestions????

    • I am happy you like my project. 🙂 There’s a great Happy Easter in Teeny Tiny Wishes – you could crop it with the Word Window punch and add it to the banner. Just a thought.
