An Autumn Thank You with English Garden

I have a lot of awesome people in my life!  I recently had a great cause to send out a stack of thank you cards to some really great friends – I think I can handle that!  I’m so in love with the splattered flowers in English Garden Designer Series Paper that I immediately reached for that.  It gave me the formal-yet-casual look I was going for.  Here’s my card:

One Big Meaning, English Garden Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Border Repetition.  I talk a lot about the visual satisfaction that comes when borders are repeated on a card – the eye relaxes when an outside border matches the width of an inside border.  For this card, I went [a little] against the grain but still stayed inside my standard rule.  While there’s a thick layer of Hello Honey and a thin frame of Mossy Meadow, the Soft Suede band around the sentiment pairs perfectly with the Soft Suede frame from the card base.
  • Diagonal Band.  I don’t always work with diagonals, but I wanted to set off this sentiment a little more than normal.  I simply cut a strip of cardstock (I think this was 1″ or 1-1/4″).  I cut the end at a diagonal and glued it to the piece of Designer Series Paper, carefully lining up the edge of the strip with the edge of the Designer Series Paper.  I then snipped the opposite side along the edge of the paper to perfectly coordinate the cuts.  BE WARNED:  You want to cut and glue your strip before you glue down the Designer Series Paper to the layer beneath – it’s kinda hard to cut paper that’s already been glued down to another.  Please don’t ask how I know that.  🙂
  • Warm Color Combination.  This Autumnal color combination was pulled right from this gorgeous English Garden Designer Series Paper.  All the work was done for me – thanks, Stampin’ Up!  🙂  Popped against the Whisper White backdrop, they are perfect!  If your heart, too, is warmed by this combination of colors, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 6. So very exquisite! Love the bold sentiment and soft floral background!

  7. Some papers are so beautiful I don’t want to use them up! I know, it defeats the purpose, but I’ve decided to just call it collecting, that way I can justify it better.

Love this card and you are right, it is perfectly Autumnal. The colors are gorgeous and I think putting the band diagonally was the perfect touch.

  8. What a nice, clean card. I love that paper, too.

  9. The English Garden DSP may be my favorite collection currently available. Your selection today has a look of fall, but still bright and cheery. Great card, Brian.

  14. A bit late but I needed to say this card is lovely, that soft flower background with the Hello Honey and Mossy Meadow looks awesome as a backdrop for the beautiful sentiment, I love that font.

  15. How DO you cut paper that’s already glued down to another?
Just kidding! Hahaha. I think almost everyone has gone through that experience; esp. if we’re designing and creating “on the fly”.
    Love your card.

  16. Awesome card Brian! What great colours. You overwhelm me with your awesomeness.
