Vintage Leaves Made Modern for CYCI94

Vintage Leaves is a gorgeous stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s Annual Catalog.  As its name implies, the set showcases leaves with a very “vintage” appeal.  How about that?!  This weekend I made two cards with Vintage Leaves, and both cards have a very modern look to them.  Score!  Today I’m sharing the first of the cards, and I’ll share the second one tomorrow as part of this month’s Pals Blog Hop.

Today’s card was inspired by this week’s super-simple sketch for Can You Case It challenge.  Here’s my card:Vintage Leaves, Cheer All Year, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CYCI94

And here’s this week’s Can You Case It sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • HELLO AUTUMN.  You’d hardly know it’s Autumn in Atlanta – while the leaves are turning and falling, it’s been raining non-stop.  It only lets up enough for the next round of rain to build up.  🙂  Where’s my crisp, cold air?  [stomps my feet and raises my fist in the air]  Christmas, Halloween and Fall are all represented in the Cheer All Year stamp set, which I have reached for several times since Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Catalog was released earlier this year.  The images in this set are very versatile, and the font is great!  It was the perfect sentiment for today’s Fall-themed card and this CYCI sketch.

  • White Embossing.  One of my favorite go-to accents for a card is White Stampin’ Emboss Powder – the white powder always pops perfectly against colored cardstock.  The deeper the color, the bigger the pop.  The powder is fine enough to even pick up the detailed sketching on the Vintage Leaves stamp.  A little VersaMark (slow-drying, clear ink), White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and a Heat tool – that’s all you need to get a clean image.  The Leaflets Framelits Dies completed this leaf image.
  • Gorgeous Fall Colors.  Although the gorgeous leaf and Autumnal sentiment scream “Fall,” it’s the four strips of cardstock on the front panel that define the Fall theme.  One brown, one green, one red, one yellow.  Are there four colors that could better capture the shades of Fall?  If you, too, like these colors, please feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
