Suite Sayings – a Sneak Peek for PPA280

I do love a quick-and-easy sketch to inspire my creativity.  You can always dress up a simple sketch, but it can be really difficult to simplify a very detailed one.  I feel certain that this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch will inspire all sorts of amazing projects – I’m excited to see what others create.  My card is an always-appropriate “thank you for being such an awesome human being” card that uses several sneak peek items from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Occasions Catalog.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Suite Sayings for Simply Smashing Sentiments.  I love when I can create a beautiful card where the sentiment is the featured player.  For this card, I only needed this GORGEOUS paper from Botanical Gardens Designer Series Paper and a sweet sentiment from Suite Sayings.  Nothing wrong with saying, “You’re great!” – we could probably say it more often to more people, right?  I love everything about this sentiment – the font, the kindness and the way it pairs with Botanicals for You stamps set (one of this year’s amazing Sale-a-Bration stamp sets).  Here’s a peek at Suite Sayings:

And look how perfectly it pairs with the “add on” sentiment in this amazing Sale-a-Bration stamp set, Botanicals for You:

  • Scoring Accents.  This sketch calls for a band with three lines near the bottom of the card.  While the band is up for interpretation (you could use twine, or strips of paper or nothing at all), I decided to meet the challenge head-on.  Instead of creating something that would make this card busier (who wants to distract from the gorgeous sentiment?), I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to score three lines in the Hello Honey strip of cardstock to create a subtle texture.
  • Color Combination.  I would typically consider Cajun Craze and Hello Honey to be Fall colors – they are rich and regal colors that just seem to fit with Autumn.  When paired with Mint Macaron, though, in this gorgeous Designer Series Paper, I’m in love with the Springy-ness of these colors.  If you like this combination, too, please save this: Stampin' Up! 12. Love love…did I say I love this card

  13. I two forget about using score lines as an embellishment, very cool.

  14. breaking up the front layer from the dsp with colored cardstock – a steadfast Brian rule!

  15. Love how that white embossing pops right off the oval. Beautiful!

  16. Very pretty and I love the seak peek at the gorgeous DSP!

  17. The burnt orange table enhances presentation the card very well. I have experimented with wood grains, single color, and fabrics below the card (table surface) as well a various vertical backgrounds. The card reflection on table surface can be too bright at times. Sometimes I spend a lot of time trying to find the optimum display arrangement.
