For this week’s Global Design Project sketch, I chose to CASE a card from Stampin’ Up!’s upcoming 2016-2017 Annual Catalog. I was inspired by the zig-zag lines from Work of Art and layered this sentiment from Sunburst Sayings over top of the lines (the project that inspired my card is found on page 122 of the upcoming catalog). Basic Black and Melon Mambo really pop with this touch of gold. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Fancy Squiggles. I know these background of my card is made up of a fun zig-zag pattern, but it’s just more fun to call them squiggles – so much more fun to say. There are three squiggles in Work of Art stamp – I stamped it four times (using my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig to line them all up) with Archival Basic Black ink. I trimmed the panel of Whisper White to fit the image perfectly.
- A Perfect Sentiment. I love beautiful fonts and uplifting sentiments, but I’ve not reached for Sunburst Sayings a lot. I’m now asking myself why I waited so long. That conversation sounds something like this, “Brian, why have you waited so long?” That’s quite a compelling conversation, right? This pairing of a scripted font with a bold, printed font is perfect for this week’s sketch. The two look wonderful inside this large circle and accented with this small heart from the Owl Builder punch.
- Four Colors. The colors for my card were also inspired by the upcoming 2016-2017 Annual Catalog. Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Whisper White and gold are found in Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper, a fresh and fun paper with a modern appeal. If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this as a reminder:
Stamp Sets: Work of Art, Sunburst Sayings Papers: Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Whisper White, Gold Foil Inks: Archival Basic Black, Melon Mambo Accessories: Owl Builder punch, Circles Collection Framelits, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Those “squiggles” make a striking background Brian, and I love all your layers for matting. Great card!!!
One of my favorite stamp sets. Nicely done Brian
WOW . . . Never inked up that particular stamp. Everyone always uses the brush stroke stamp. Can’t wait to try this today! Great card.

Love how you are rocking out the colors for the pop of pink paper! Beautiful new backdrop and photo for your card.
Wow! I love the color combination and the zip zag background!!!!
The squiggles make a fun background for the circles and the Melon Mambo sentiment. I also love the layer of gold.
I always love your layering Brian and this color combo is fantastic. I often have those types of conversations with myself so it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. LOL
What a fun card! Love the colors and interpretation. I think I will CASE it if you don’t mind.
