A Jolly Friend for PP314

This week’s sketch for The Paper Players is a quick-and-easy sketch that almost gives us free reign with our designs.  I love challenging challenges (go figure!), but I also love having a starting point that’s basic and wide-open.  Joanne James’ sketch involves a single band down one side of the card and a sentiment at the base of that band.  Love it – and I had fun with it.  Here’s my card:

Jolly Friends, Candy Cane Christmas, Holly Jolly Greetings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP314

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

PP314Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Jolly Friends.  This moose couldn’t be more adorable.  I didn’t want to snip around those antlers, so I stamped the entire image on the strip of Whisper White and again on a scrap piece of Crumb Cake.  I snipped out the moose’s face and ears from the Crumb Cake piece and paper-pieced them over the image that was stamped on white.  This bundle comes with a fun punch that easily builds an adorable hat – but I chose to leave out the hat because I didn’t want to distract from the ornaments I hung from his antlers (and I didn’t want to cover up his ears).  I will be using that hat soon, though – the punch is awesome!

  • Little Stars.  So, I had my moose, and I had my sentiment.  Wasn’t sure what “wow” factor I was going to add to this card.  The hat was cute, but I wasn’t getting the “wow” that I wanted on this particular project.  I scanned my stamp sets, looking for something to add a fun element to this card.  That’s when I landed on the dangling stars from Holly Jolly Greetings – perfect to add a little festive fun to this moose.
  • More Samples.  Stampin’ Up!’s concept artists have shared some really great samples with this bundle that really showcase how fun it can be.  I just wanted to share some of those with you today.  Here’s the fun moose card that’s showcase in the product photo above:Jolly Friends, Stampin' Up!And here are some cute projects with the elf and the jolliest elf, Santa:  Jolly Friends, Stampin' Up!So many ideas, so little time.  Hope these help to create a fun, quick project.

Atlanta WCMDThere’s still room – but not much room.  When Pam and I set out to organize this year’s World Card Making Day event (we are holding it a month later to coincide with Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage Local event in Atlanta), we set our expectations high.  We are thrilled with the registrations so far but still have some seats left.  If you are a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and plan to be in Atlanta for the OnStage Local event, we’d love for you to come one day early to have fun with us.  If you’d like more information about our event, please CLICK HERE.

  7. Oh Brian – your card for today is Stinkin’ Cute! I mean really – a moose with his rack decorated. I’ll have to take a trip up to the county (that’s the northern part of Maine that consists only of logging roads) and see how many decorated moose I can come across. I bet they all do it when we aren’t looking! Just to sweet and funny. Thanks for the great big smile today.

  8. Woah! I hadn’t even realized those adorable little stars existed! I had completely overlooked the Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set until now. It is absolutely perfect with the moose stamp.

Being from the North Star state, Moose are kind of a big deal up here. I will have to CASE this card for a certain someone that I know that is obsessed with Moose! Thanks for the idea!

  12. Exhausted, stressed out, behind on email, and in physical pain, this card made me start laughing when I opened the email. Of course, then I started crying, but we’ll just forget that part. Thank you for making me laugh when I really needed it.
