Sneak Peek: Seasonal Lantern for CTS235

Oh how I love this week’s sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch!  From the moment I first saw it, my mind raced with ideas for how to showcase this fun layout.  I wanted to create clean, straight lines for my crossing borders and reached for a stamp set with clean, straight lines.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for Chrissy Larson’s sketch challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Seasonal Lantern.  There are so many occasions that can be celebrated with this fun, new bundle – with accessories for Autumn, Christmas or Hanukkah.  The lantern can also be used as a Thinking of You card or for any general occasion.  Here’s a look at the simple layering on my card:  Seasonal Lantern, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingMy simple card layers the lantern and candle, but there are many other ways to layer the dies and stamps – the options are endless.  Here’s a look at the Seasonal Lantern Bundle (just look at the gorgeous images and detailed dies):

  • Thin Lines.  To create the thin lines that border my lantern, I simply ran the fine-tip point of a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker down the edge of a ruler on the cardstock.  I eyeballed the distance between the lines, so they aren’t exactly spaced – I’m OK with that.  Quick tip for those who want to try this:  cut your cardstock just a little longer and wider than you want for the finished project.  Start your lines just off the cardstock (so that your lines are solid on the cardstock).  You’ll end up with a little more ink on the edge where the ink pen first hits the cardstock – since you left a little wiggle room with the measurements, you are all set to trim that bit off the side.  🙂
  • Fall Colors.  I love the richness of colors in Autumn.  Even though this card doesn’t feature a tree with turning leaves, I used those colors on this card.  Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango and Soft Suede on a backdrop of Very Vanilla – doesn’t get more Fall than that, right?  If you like these colors as much as I do, please save this:  Stampin' Up!
