One of the most memorable Christmas songs of all time is “The Little Drummer Boy,” a song that tells the story of a poor, young drummer who was summoned to the Nativity with nothing to offer. When he plays his drum, the act proves to be a perfect gift. Who can’t pick up the song following a single string of “Pa-rum-pum-pum-pum”s? You’re probably singing it now! Today’s sweet and simple card features the little drummer boy and a handful of wonderful, new products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Holiday Catalog. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Musical Season. The Musical Season bundle is quite a classic beauty! The sentiments are beautiful, and the musical instruments are fun, too. There are two bonus shapes in the coordinating dies (both are Thinlits) that aren’t represented in the stamp images but that coordinate beautifully – a French horn and a treble clef. These images are versatile to be used throughout the year – especially if you are a “music person” or know a “music person.” Here’s a look at this wonderful bundle:

- Papers. This is the first time I’ve showcased the Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper – what a gorgeous panel of Basic Black and Whisper White paper! I love this page so much that I maximized its presentation by featuring it on the full height of the cardfront – this panel measures 4″ x 5-1/2″. It really pops against the softness of the Pool Party base. Here’s a look at the other pages in this all-black-and-white set of papers:
The oval is cropped with the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies from a gorgeous, Pool Party panel of Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper. I started with an oval of cardstock but needed a little more texture. This piece was a perfect fit. Here’s a look at this wonderful pack of paper:

- Three Colors. Who would have ever thought that Basic Black could play such an important role in the colors of Christmas? There’s lots of black in the Designer Series Papers this year – and they are amazing. This Pool Party pops against the black background. If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:

Stamp Sets: Musical Season, Snowflake Sentiments Papers: Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper, Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, Pool Party Inks: Archival Basic Black Accessories: Musical Instruments Framelits Dies, Pretty Label punch, Layering Ovals Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Fab Friday blog site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

The color combination is striking. Who would have thought to put them together for Christmas but you! And, yes, I am humming “Pa rum pa pa pum” at this very moment!
Yay! I knew you would. 🙂 I’ve always loved the softness of Pool Party or Soft Sky for Christmas. Looks even softer with all of this black.

Thanks so much, Sonny! Both of these DSP packs are wonderful. So glad you like the card and am happy with myself for planting that ear worm. Pa-rum-pum-pum-pum. 🙂
Love your little drummer boy and this layout! Can’t wait to see what you come up with using the french horn! 😉
Thanks so much, Julie! The little drummer silhouette is quite adorable. I’ve made a couple of great mock-ups with the French horn. I’ll share them with you so you can help me decide what to show. Thanks!
Brilliant!
Thanks, Debi! I appreciate it.
Excellent color combo!
Thanks, Katrina! I’ve used Pool Party quite a bit for the holidays, but I’m loving this year’s designs with lots of black. So many ways to dress it up.
Yep, we sang it in choir my freshman year of HS ( a loooong time ago) – loved it then – still love it? Sigh! I am running out of ways to tell you how perfect your designs are! Perfect layout – color combo – all of it! I’m with Julie – I need to see what you do with the french horn!!?
Thanks so much, Elisha! I’m so happy that you like this card and are so complimentary of my projects. I hope I can continue to wow you. 🙂 Will get to work on the French horn this weekend…
This is as sweet as can be….love it!
Thanks so much, Linda! I enjoyed working with this layout and the little drummer boy. <3
So lovely, again great color choices.
Thanks so much, Rachael! I love working with color – these products just work so well together. I appreciate your comments.
Fun use of that pool party side of the paper. I really didn’t care for the other side. I must remember to use it in this manner on the shares piece I have. I am sure I can come up with something fun. I didn’t plan on buying this stamp set. I love the way you come up with different color combinations and different ways of interpreting challenges etc. You just constantly amaze me. Also, congrats on your big achievement – I can’t imagine it.
Thanks so much, Chris! Your comments are always so kind. I appreciate them and am glad you like my card.
Brings back tons of happy high school memories. Being in band and our Winter Holiday concert. This card is a winner.
What fun! Thanks, Robbye! <3
