Every once in a while you need a “phooey” card for a friend who’s hit a rough patch. When I needed to make one this week, I reached for another trusty friend – the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits. While there are three words in the set of dies, there are other words that can be created from these three. Here’s my “Rats” card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Sunshine Wishes Thinlits. I can’t begin to count the number of times I’ve used the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies to create flowers, hearts, butterflies (is that thing a butterfly?) and great words. The set of dies includes “hope,” “love,” “congrats” and “sunshine” – but with a few snips or switch-a-roos, you can build some other words. For today’s card, I snipped the “cong” off “congrats” to showcase “rats.” How fun! Here’s a closer look at this sentiment:And here’s a look at all of the super-fun dies in the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits. I don’t like to tell you what to do (it can come off as quite rude), but you really need these:
- Simple Layout. You don’t have to have a complex layout to have a beautiful card. Sometimes the simplest layout can do the trick. For this card, I simply cut a rectangle that’s proportionate in length and width to the card base and the positioned it in the lower, right corner of the card. I added a band (lined up with “bad stuff happens”) to anchor the panel. Depending on what accompanies the background page of Naturally Eclectic, the paper’s design can be jazzy and festive or a bit morose. In this case, I think it looks like a nighttime rainstorm – perfect of a “bummer” card. 🙂
- Color Scheme. I love any combination of blue and gray – it’s so sophisticated. I thought it was perfect for this “meh, life can be terrible” card. The three colors can change tone depending on the balance of the three. An all white card with a touch of blue and gray, for example, could be quite uplifting and fun. If you like these three colors together, please save this:

Here are some other projects I’ve made with the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies – some are the full words from the dies, but several are partials to create new words (you can click on any of the pictures to read the original posts for each card):
