Petal Palette for FMS316

Before I share today’s card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I want to give a big “thank you” to Narelle Farrugia who selected my Color Me Happy from last week’s challenge. You can see that post here. I love playing along with online challenges – they give me a great starting point for a card (a wonderful layout or a great color combination or a fun inspiration). It’s always an honor to be recognized by the design team members. Thanks, Narelle!

Jen Timko has created a wonderful sketch for us this week – a simple layout with a slightly-skewed panel. So many ways to showcase this fun layout. What fun! Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

  • Petal Palette.  While there are MANY wonderful, new products I love in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018, I can pick my favorite suite of products without a bit of hesitation. The Petal Palette Suite is a GORGEOUS black-and-white suite of Designer Series Paper, stamp set, ribbon, embellishments, embossing folders and Memories & More cards. It’s a winner, and you’re going to want ALL of it! Despite the fact that the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper is black-and-white (you know how much I love to color on Designer Series Paper, right?), I stamped these flowers on Thick Whisper White and colored all of the images (including the background) with Stampin’ Blends. Here’s a look at the gorgeous Petal Garden stamp set:

  • Inks & Papers. OH! How I enjoyed coloring the flowers in this panel of stamped images! After I stamped the flowers with Tuxedo Black Memento ink (I used my Stamp-a-majig to line them up exactly where I wanted them), I colored the image with a mix of Stampin’ Blends. I love the beautiful artistry we can achieve with Stampin’ Blends – they are easy and fun to use and always give a great effect. I colored all of the leaves with the Old Olive Combo Pack (Combo Packs include a light and dark shade of the referenced color) and the flowers with Pink Pirouette Combo Pack and Daffodil Delight Combo Pack. What fun! THEN…I colored the entire background with the Light Pool Party marker. Here’s a closeup:Petal Palette, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS316I love how easy these markers are to use! If you haven’t yet given the Stampin’ Blends, please give them a try! The collection would make a WONDERFUL Christmas gift – and I know someone who sells them and would love to order them up for your loved ones to give you as a “surprise.” Here’s a look at the markers:

  • Sweet Color Combination. I like generally like to work with trios of colors, but this card called for four. While I started to color my flowers with Pink Pirouette, I thought a pop of Daffodil Delight would add some gorgeous brightness. The Basic Black on this card helps to ground these bright and sweet colors – I love this combo. If you like it, too, please save this for future inspiration:Stampin' Up! 1. Stunning background and coloring. Extraordinary shading with the Stampin’ Blends!

  2. Fabulous card Brian and a great way to introduce the new Stampin’ Blends. I should start saving these sketches for the times that I sit down to make cards. I always start with a stamp set I want to use but too often fall back on the same old layout. You are amazing.
