“I don’t own any Valentine’s Day stamp sets,” says a friend, “so I can’t make any cards for Valentine’s Day.” Stampin’ Up!’s catalogs are filled to the brim with images and sentiments that are perfect for February 14, so don’t give up so fast! Today’s card combines three not-Valentine’s Day products to make a super-sweet Valentine’s Day card. Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Three Non-Valentine’s Day Products. As I mentioned above, this sweet card is made of three products that are not created specifically for Valentine’s Day, but I love the versatility of each (and so many other Stampin’ Up! products). How sweet is that little squirrel? Do you recognize him? He’s part of a lineup of fun characters in the We Must Celebrate stamp set (in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog). I used Scotch tape to mask out the other images in the set so I could enjoy the squirrel by himself. Here’s a look at this fun set:
The handsome houndstooth background paper also comes from the Occasions Catalog – here’s a look at the patterns and colors in True Gentleman Designer Series Paper:
Finally, this sentiment can be found in the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set – so many great sentiments and fun fonts in this set: - Stampin’ Blends. Stampin’ Up!’s new alcohol markers are incredible! While they are wonderful and easy to use for artistic blending of various shades, they can also be used to simply color images without any streaking. I love my Stampin’ Blends – and Sale-a-Bration is the best time of year to stock up – earn Sale-a-Bration rewards while buying the things you already love!
I used a combination of my Crumb Cake Blends and the two Skin Tone markers (Ivory and Bronze) to color this sweet squirrel and his acorn. Such fun! To see all of the Stampin’ Blends options, please click here:

- Color Combination. This card uniquely combines a Very Vanilla background panel with a Whisper White panel. I don’t do that often, but I think these work well together. I also love the combination of Chocolate Chip and Real Red – there’s so much red in Chocolate Chip, and it shows when the two are combined. If you like this combination of colors, please save this:

You are so crafty. Way to think outside the box. I need to do that more. Thanks for sharing. Love the card and the colors you used. Great for anybody, but especially a man.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Terri! I’m thrilled that you like the card – because I stamp every day, it becomes easier and easier for me to create. It’s a great habit. 🙂
Very sweet! He is so cute.
Thanks, Rene! <3
How adorbs! I LOVE every inch of that little squirrel (nutty buttons) and the sweet houndstooth pattern.
Thanks, Mary! He’s a real cutie pie – so glad you like this card. The brown squirrel seems perfectly designed for the houndstooth paper. <3
Cute card Brian and great color combo. Have a nice week-end!
Thanks, Dawn! I’ve always loved Chocolate Chip and Real Red – and this squirrel is about as cute as can be. Hope your weekend is wonderful, too!
Love the houndstooth…wow on the mix of non Valentine products to make an adorable card!
Thanks, Windy! So glad you like it. It was fun to pull together these unlikely pairs.
Well I am nutty about this! Adorable….and love that you let the squirrel take center stage without his friends!
He paid me off for a starring role on this card – sneaky critter! So glad you like the card, Linda! Thanks!
What s clever guy you are! Love using unexpected materials for a card!
Thanks, Dianne! It was a fun challenge to pull these items together.
Ah nuts, I wasn’t going to get the critters but I an a sucker for squirrels and acorns! This set went from the “B”list to the “A” list now. I was thinking about how hard it would be to cut the animals apart but they look pretty close together….ummm might have to mask them. Of course the color combo is a favorite as is the houndstooth paper. I can always use the friends fur-ever sentiment on my humane society cards. Thanks Brian for showcasing the little guy!
Yay! You should totally get it, Chris! The images are just far enough apart that you can certainly cut them – I masked mine, though, and haven’t decided if I will cut my set. 🙂
I made my first card with the True Gentleman paper yesterday. It’s so cute I may use it for females who wear glasses as well.
Fun idea! Love the paper – thanks for your comment! <3
Perfect!
Awwww…thanks, Joann! <3
Alright where do I begin? I love neutrals, I love plaids so you had me at Brown houndstooth. Then, even though it’s only a peek, neutrals mixed with a pop of color is classic, so you add Real Red. You are so in my wheelhouse with this card, I love it.
Yay! I’m so glad you like the card, Robbye! Makes me so happy! <3
That little squirrel is just the cutest thing. Not like the ones that are always attacking my bird feeders! LOL This card couldn’t be any more appropriate for a Valentine then it is and to think not a Valentine set was used. You are amazing!!!!!!
Thanks so much, Grace! I’m so glad you like the card – it’s simple, but the squirrel is just so dang cute. <3 How could I NOT feature him? 🙂
Brian, you are absolutely right, Valentine’s Day is about LOVE, so non Valentine sets and paper will be perfect! Your card is so cute and sweet, thanks for a perfect idea!
So glad you like it, Katrina! That squirrel with a nut just screams “love” to me – glad you agree.
This little guy is probably my favorite in the entire catalog. I feel in love with him. Maybe because I have so many squirrels in my yard. Thanks so much for sharing all of your great creations. I always look at them but do not comment.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Ann! I appreciate it – so sweet of you. <3
Awwwww,, Brian my friend , what a cute little guy , love your card ,,♥️
Hugs your friend
Thanks, Frenchie! I adore you and hope you are doing well. Thanks for your sweet comments! <3
