Trick or Treat for GDP158

October is upon us, so it feels appropriate to share a super-fun Halloween card. 🙂 This week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge gives us a trio of shapes that inspired me to make a quick-and easy Halloween card. I’m happy to share it with you today. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

• One Hat, Two Hats, Three Hats. There’s very little stamping on this card – in fact, I only stamped the sentiment. Everything else is cut or cropped from cardstock or Toil & Trouble Designer Series Paper, this year’s papers designed for Halloween. How fun are these hats?! They are cropped straight out of the Toil & Trouble Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of papers (you can click on the photo below for a closer view of each of the pages in the pack):The fifth pattern on the first row above is filled to the brim (pun intended) with hats that can be cropped with the Cauldron Framelits Dies. The dies also coordinate with the cauldron, cat and frog on the first page and the witch on the third page. Here’s a look at the Cauldron Bubble Bundle:  I love when we have dies that coordinate with papers – so smart and a great way to get the most out of our products! The page of bats, incidentally, pair with the Spooky Bats Punch found on page 51 of Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Holiday Catalog.
• Sentiment Builder. While the trio of hats might be the star of this show (unless you count the star-filled panel in the background), the sweet “Trick or Treat” sentiment gets a pretty high billing. I stamped this sentiment from the Seasonal Chums stamp set on Thick Whisper White and cropped it with the Classic Label punch. I also punched a scrap of Crushed Curry with the same punch, cut it in half and layered it on either side of the sentiment. Such a fun way to spruce up the simple sentiment.
• Halloween Colors. There’s no doubt that Basic Black is the foundation of this card (it’s a must-have for the spooky holiday), but three other colors are important to lighten the mood a bit. These colors could be as fun on a birthday card as a Halloween card – I love the versatility of this combination.
