There’s a fun theme challenge at the Global Design Project this week – Fall in Love. Cards can be Fall-themed or love-themed or a combination of the two. What fun! My card combines the gorgeous colors and textures of Fall with three hearts and a happy sentiment. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Buffalo Check. This gorgeous sentiment is from Country Home – a new stamp set with several GORGEOUS sentiments that share feelings of love and thankfulness – perfect for this Fall in Love theme challenge. It’s the Buffalo Check background stamp, though, that gives the card such a feeling of Autumn. I stamped the Buffalo Check stamp with black ink on three colors of cardstock – looks just like the hearts are fashioned with flannel, don’t they?
To yield the best results with this background stamp, use a stamp positioning tool to stamp the image so you can stamp it and reink it again. The squares aren’t as solid as you may want with one inking, but an imperfectly inked square also gives a beautiful texture.
- Added Texture. Boy, do I love the warm texture the Buffalo Check stamp set gives these colorful hearts – they seem like they are cropped right out of a lumberjack’s flannel shirt. The Sweetly Stitched Framelits Dies add another layer of texture – I love this set of dies (to see another project I made with them, click here). I added a third layer by inking the Real Red heart with VersaMark and heat embossing it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder before cropping it. The added shine makes this red heart stand out from the others.
- Warm Color Combination. I love the warmth of the colors in this card – together are a perfect representation of Fall. If you like this combination of Crumb Cake, Real Red and Crushed Curry as much as I do, please save this:
When showcased with all the black and white in this card, these three colors really pop.
Stamp Sets: Buffalo Check, Country Lane Papers: Real Red, Crumb Cake, Crushed Curry, Basic Black, Whisper White Inks: Basic Black Accessories: Sweetly Stitched Framelits Dies, Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Thanks so much, my friend! So glad you like it, Lydia! They have the appearance of flannel – like you could run your finger over them to feel the rough cloth.

Thanks so much, Susan! <3 So happy you like them.
Love this card Brian!
Thanks, Rene! <3
I can’t wait to get my hands on this plaid stamp! It’s the first item on my next order. The hubs has a black and red check flannel shirt from L.L. Bean’s that he will not part with no matter how tattered it has become. I have a perfect card in mind to make for him when I purchase a new one for him and make the original disappear. LOL Really Brian – those “flannel” hearts are just the sweetest and the card is fabulous.
Thanks so much, Grace! I was happy with how these hearts turned out – better than I had envisioned. <3 Your husband will love his flannel card. <3
Oh my, oh my, oh my, I love this card!!!
Awww…thanks, Katrina! <3
Brian this is so sweet. I’m sure you made it just for me because you know I love plaids. All kidding aside this was beautifully done and it’s simply awesome.

If Paul Bunyan gave me his heart it would look like one of these! This is beyond sweet! So creative and oh so delightful!
Thanks so much, Linda! If Paul Bunyan ever met you, he’d surely give you his flannel heart. <3 Thanks!
Cute Idea with the plaid hearts! Thanks for sharing your talent.
