At first glance, you might think I’m abandoning all of my Christmas products for today’s super-fun, uplifting card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, but I’ve not abandoned all of them. The Poppy Parade polka dot paper (say that five times fast) is one of the brilliant designs in the Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper – yet my card has no hint of the December holiday. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for CTS294, the challenge that inspired my card (this challenge goes live at 10am EST):
- A Fun Sentiment with a Fun Sketch. My original design concept for this sketch was to color the first half of the sentiments with Poppy Parade and the second half of the sentiments with Coastal Cabana, splitting across the change of papers. I was so happy with the sentiment in black and white that I chickened out, deciding to just leave it alone. Maybe I should have taken that risk, but I love it like it is, so… Here’s a look at the Calls for a Celebration stamp set I used on this card:
There’s no die that fits with this rounded-corners rectangle sentiment, so I cropped the stamped sentiment with my Brother Scan-n-Cut.
- Mimicked Borders. As soon as I cropped the sentiment, I knew I’d want to mimic the white border around the main panel. Here’s a look at the sentiment in the center of my card:
I tried several things to “spruce up” the card – I added rolled twine, I cropped little hearts to sprinkle above, I played with a sunburst above. Nothing gave me an option I liked better than when it was left alone – so, I left it alone. I am happy with the simplicity of it.
- Color Combination. The Poppy Parade polka dot paper pairs perfectly [alliteration intended] with Coastal Cabana. The power of these bright colors is intensified by all the Basic Black on the card. If you like this combination of Coastal Cabana, Poppy Parade and Basic Black, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Reason for a Celebration Papers: Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper, Coastal Cabana, Basic Black, Thick Whisper White Inks: Basic Black Accessories: Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

So crisp and cute. The perfect sentiment and I love the white border around it!
Thanks, Mary! The sentiment is such fun – can’t believe it took me this long to feature it. <3
I’ve never heard of a Scan ‘n Cut, but it does a great job! Fun card, Brian!
It can be a bit finicky and is no replacement for Framelits/punches. Still comes in handy every once in a while. <3
You are rockn that sketch! Love the bright colors!
🙂 Thanks so much, Windy! It’s a fun sketch, huh? <3
Love, love, love your color combination. I like the black and white sentiment but would like to have seen the Poppy/Coastal attempt. I also like the sketch and might give it a try. P.S. Always good to know when to quit adding ‘stuff’.
I just couldn’t do it – might give it another try. Thanks, Dianne!
Love the color combo Brian, the white border is the perfect balance!
Thanks, Katrina! I played with adding more, but I liked it just like this. Glad you do, too. <3
I can’t believe with all the times I’ve gone through the catalog that I never noticed this stamp set. I love the sentiment and I think that would be a fantastic “picker upper” for a friend or relative going through a tough time. Thanks again Brian for bringing such a fabulous set to my attention.
Happy to share, Grace! There are lots of gems that are hardly seen – I like to find the hidden ones. I love these sentiments in this set! <3
Love the polka dots ! Plus the sentiment is the best !! I wish there was a system called Rent A Sentiment . That way you could stamp a bunch to use then turn it back in …..Grin…
I like your final card . Crisp and colorful !
Thanks so much, Sonny! I’m so glad you like this card. I needed some bright colors and patterns to go with the super-fun sentiment. <3
