I love bold colors and fun stripes. There’s something in my DNA, though, that doesn’t allow me to just showcase it in it’s natural beauty. For some reason, I sometimes need to alter gorgeous paper by adding ink or by cutting it into pieces. That’s what I’ve done for today’s FabFriday sketch challenge card – and I couldn’t be happier. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- How Sweet It Is. This card features two products in the How Sweet It Is Suite in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog – the How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper and two dies from the the Jar of Sweets Framelits Dies, part of the Sweetest Thing Bundle. Here’s a look at the cheery colors and patterns in this pack of papers:
For my card, I used the striped paper that’s fifth on the top row above. I trimmed the paper into 3/4″ strips and flipped them around and repositioned them to mix the patterns a bit. Here’s a closer look at the treatment of this paper:
- Hello Cupcake. You know how much I love a beautiful sentiment, right? The three sentiments in Hello Cupcake are what convinced me to pick up this stamp set with my Sale-a-Bration earnings. “Celebrate your day!” is perfect for lots of occasions – birthdays, baby showers or retirement parties. The option are endless!Â
I stamped this sweet sentiment in Gorgeous Grape on Thick Whisper White and cropped it with this sweet label die from the Jar of Sweets Framelits Dies. Perfect, huh?
- Layering. I had so much fun with the layering of elements on this card. Not only is the candy jar and sentiment layered on a popped circle of vellum cardstock, but the strips of How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper are also popped up. Here’s a closer look at the layering of these elements:
I love the Jar of Sweets Framelits – gave me the quick-and-easy silhouette of a candy jar I needed. To see all of the items in this “so sweet it’ll make your teeth hurt” suite, click on the image below:

I adore the simple “silhouette” of the candy jar. Pulls the look together without overwhelming! Fancy (and cool) layering of the stripe into a whole new pattern!
Thanks, Mary! I started with the stripes and decided they needed a little something different. Glad you like it.
Your layering is always great and this is no exception. Especially love the bold striped DSP!. Nicely done, my friend!
Thanks, Dianne! I had fun with this paper. Always love to hear from you.
What a fun card using this DSP and the diecuts. Love your clever cutting of the DSP to add so much interest to this card. Enjoy the weekend.
Thanks, Hilda! I love the colors in the paper and had fun changing up the pattern a bit.
Yep, what Mary said!

Thanks so much, Dawn! I’m not a “purple” guy, but I do love this bright, bold shade.
