Sweeter Than Candy for GDP179

The Global Design Project crew is kicking off a theme challenge this week – and it’s really sweet. Literally. Our projects this week focus on sugary sweets – candy, cake and ice cream. What fun! I knew I wanted to use one of the sweet cupcakes from the Detailed Birthday Edgelits. I layered the cupcake with bright colors and mounted it on a mini pizza box. Sweet! Here’s my project:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

GDP179Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Birthday Cheer Bundle. I adore the big sentiments and sweet images in the Birthday Cheer Bundle – the Detailed Birthday Edgelits feature cupcakes and gifts that are cropped along the bottom to create a really cool border – here’s a look at this fun set and cool, coordinated Thinlits:Birthday Cheer Bundle, Stampin' Up! 150576There’s a great sample of how these Thinlits work on page 16 of the Occasions Catalog. I cropped the outline of the cupcake with the Thinlits die and cropped a cupcake with the cupcake Framelits die. With a Fine-tip Glue Pen I glued the white outline to the Coastal Cabana base. I cropped the heart with Melon Mambo and added that inside the outline, too, for a complete look.Detailed Birthday Edgelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAfter everything dried, I washed the inside of the cupcake icing with a Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. Great shine with little work and little mess.
  • All Adorned. My cupcake deserves a gorgeous backdrop, so it is framed with three layers of colorful circles. I played with several patterns and colors for the backdrop before deciding to give All Adorned a try. I love how this set works – it’s a corner pattern with an intricate design. I lined up the stamp along the corner of a 3″ x 3″ piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock and stamped it with Coastal Cabana ink. The stamp works with several sizes of squares – I especially love how it layered with the 3″ x 3″ panel. Here’s a closer look at what’s under the cupcake:  All Adorned, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAll Adorned is a photopolymer stamp set that can be earned with a $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration. • Bright Colors. I pulled the colors for this project from the How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper – they are super-sweet, aren’t they? So bright, so sweet. Here’s a reminder of how cheery they are together:Detailed Birthday Edgelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingIf you like this combination of Pineapple Punch, Coastal Cabana and Melon Mambo as much as I do, please save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! 1. Brian, I love this brightly decorated pizza box. It will be so much fun for the recipient. I love your color combo and how you used the pretty corner design to complete your layout. Enjoy your day!

    • Thanks so much, Hilda! This project went through several iterations before I landed on this combination. When it forced me to smile big, I decided to glue it all down. 🙂

  2. Your project is so bright and cheery on a very snowy morning up here in Maine, Brian. All the little details sure add up, including the little Wink of Stella!

  3. What a sweet and happy looking project Brian. The addition of the Wink of Stella just completed your cupcake. (I seriously thought it was glimmer paper and wondered if I had missed something new from SU. GREAT use of our fabulous product friend.)

    • That Wink of Stella can add a lovely touch to the project. No glimmer paper or loose glitter here – just what’s inside this glitter brush. Thanks, Kadie!

  4. The loveliest little cupcake, right down to the wash of Wink of Stella!

  5. So, what goes inside? Not a cupcake! Love the cheerful color combination. Another great card. Thanks for brightening my Monday morning!

  6. What a fun little treat box Brian and the Wink of Stella, which actually shows up on your photo, really brings the cupcake to life. Love it!

  7. Cute as can be…..definitely sweet!

  8. I especially love this color combo!

  9. Awesome project with great detail..esp the background you created.
